What to do: Give yourself a 1 hour electronics curfew before going to sleep.

This week's challenge is to make sleep a priority. Aim to get a healthy 8 hours of sleep every night this week. If 8 hours is unfeasible, at least stay away from any type of electronics a hour (such as computers, phones, etc) beforehand.

Getting a good night's sleep - the average adult needs 7-8 hours of sleep a night can affect more than just your mood in the morning. It can also affect your health, wellness and your weight.

Try some of these tips to help you get to bed sooner and lose weight faster.

    Develop A Regular Sleep Routine

Set a bedtime and stick with it. Try to pick a time when you feel sleepy, so that you don't lay in bed tossing and turning trying to fall asleep. It is also important to wake up at the same time every day. If you struggle waking up in the mornings, you may need to adjust your bedtime.

Developing a sleep routine is not easy, and consistency is important. In the beginning, take things slow. Maybe go to bed a half hour earlier and sleep 15 minutes later in the morning. This will help your body adjust, and it won't seem like such a shock to your system.

    Relax Before Bedtime

Relaxing before bedtime can help you fall asleep faster and ensure you sleep better. Finding a way to unwind before bed can also help to clear your mind of all the day's stresses — important for those with anxiety or insomnia.

It is also important that the bed is reserved for sleeping. Don't read, watch television, or listen to music in bed. Saving the bed for sleeping will help your brain to realize that when you lay down in your bed, it's time to drift off for the night.

Some things to try before attempting to sleep:

    - Toss aside the electronics one hour before bedtime.

    - Take a warm bath.

    - Listen to soft or light music.

    - Pack your lunch and lay out your clothes for the next day.

    - Do some light stretching.

    - Read a book or a magazine.

    - Practice yoga or other deep breathing techniques.

If you have trouble falling asleep once you finally crawl into bed, get up and restart your sleep routine or try a non-stimulating and quiet activity. Turn on some soft music and do a few stretches, then give it another try!

What you eat during the day—especially the hours leading up to your bedtime—can impact how well you sleep that evening.

Eat dinner earlier in the evening, and keep the food light.

Cut down on the caffeine. Save the coffee, tea and sodas for breakfast and lunch.

Do not drink alcohol before bedtime. It may help you fall asleep faster, but the quality of your sleep will suffer.

Try going to the gym before dinner. This gives you time to unwind after your workout, and can actually make it easier to fall asleep. You may also notice you fall asleep faster and feel more rested when waking up.

Start tonight. Turn off the TV, toss aside your iPhone, and shut down the computer. Run yourself a warm bath or do some stretches before bedtime instead. Aim for a solid 8 hours of satisfying sleep this week, and you'll have more energy throughout the day.
