  1. Chicken Breast (boneless skinless) (6.0 oz)
  2. Hearts of Romaine Lettuce (1.0 1/2 cups)
  3. Caesar Dressing (2.0 tbsp)
  4. Fat Free Parmesan Cheese (1.0 1/2 cup)
  5. Fat Free Caesar Croutons (5.0 croutons)

Instructions

Here’s a classic, all-time favorite salad that will surely get you through the day! Not just with its flavorsome content but also with its nutritious content.

  • Poach chicken breast until tender and cut across the grain.
  • Toss the lettuce with 2 Tb of dressing, topped with chicken, cheese, and croutons in a bowl.
  • Tip: In tossing lettuce with the dressing, first, in a circular motion, brush the lettuce in the container, raise the lettuce, and pitch it in an inward motion. Do this two more times, and no more than that. To maintain the crispness of the lettuce, remember to do this only three times and ensure that all lettuce leaves have been covered with dressing.
  • Trivia: Some may not know why this salad was called “Caesar salad”. It was named after the late Caesar Cardini, restaurant owner and chef in Tijuana, Mexico. He prepared a meal for the unexpected guests on the spur of the moment with leftover ingredients. He had eggs. He had Parmesan, lemon, and lettuce. And he had condiments. So to elaborate, Cardini added drama. He prepared the salad before them so that each guest could inhale the aroma of freshly crushed garlic, hear the crack of the eggs, and watch as fine flecks of Parmesan flew from the grater. It was a impressive preparation for a simple salad.
  • Trivia: The salad came to be known however they were made illegal in California, by a new health law banning the trade of any food that used raw eggs as an ingredient in the year 1990’s. Apparently there was a black market for the illegal imports salad. The law was soon reviewed and the situation remedied in 1998.

    Caesar salad still remains a hit as of today. It takes little more than a half-dozen pantry basics to gather. While many recipes opted to use blender or any food processor for whirring, they still can’t replicate the perfect creamy consistency you get when it’s made by hand.
