  • White Fish Facts:

White fish is low in fat. They are great source of protein and contains very low in fat because most of its fish is made up of muscle.

It is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. Most white fish contain vitamins A, D, and E.

They are known to be rich in B vitamins such as niacin (B3), a vitamin that is necessary in promoting healthy cells and helping get rid of toxins from the body, and it also contain pyridoxine (B6), a vitamin that maintains healthy skin, nervous system, and red blood cells.

White fish contains fewer toxins compared to oily fish types. White fish only contain oil in their livers.

The fat that white fish contains in their livers is also good for the body. The cod liver oil is rich in vitamins A and D. To get the vitamins from the fish, the liver oil should be consumed because the vitamins are not found in the white flesh.

There are a lot of different types of white fish with cod. Depending on the shape, white fish can be identified as either “flat” or “round”. Round fish are usually sold in cutlets or steaks, while flat fish are sold whole or in fillets.

Here are some tips when cooking white fish:

It is recommended to marinate or cook the white fish moistening occasionally when it is being cooked by baking or grilling method.

To keep the flavor and moisture, it is best to steam or poach the white fish.

Most types of white fish are quite subtle in flavor and texture, so it is recommended to take care of it when preparing so the flavor won’t be overpowered by other ingredients and to avoid destroying the texture because of unhealthy and inappropriate cooking methods.

It is important to keep in mind that if you deep fried the fish, added any fattening sauce that contains cream/butter, if you cooked it in an unhealthy way, the calorie and fat content will increase.
