Ingredients Needed

  1. Sugar (2.0 cup)
  2. Water (1.0 cup (8 fl oz))
  3. Cocoa Powder (1.0 tsp)
  4. Sugar (2.0 tsp)
  5. Cinnamon (0.25 tsp)
  6. Apples (4.0 medium (2-3/4'' dia) (approx 3 per lb))
  7. Ginger (0.5 tsp)

Instructions

Forget about the unhealthy chips. Try our healthy baked crisp apple slices with cocoa powder.

  • Prepare all the ingredients. To start off, we will make the syrup that we are going to use later for the apples. First, boil 1 cup of water and add in 2 cups of sugar, stir until the sugar dissolves, then turn off the heat.
  • Set aside and leave it to cool down. Combine the cocoa powder, 2 teaspoons of sugar, ginger powder, and cinnamon into the shaker. Shake it until all the ingredients blend together, until you can smell the aroma of all the combined ingredients.
  • This will be used as our seasoning mix. Wash the apples with cold water. Use a mandolin slicer to produce evenly thinly sliced apples.
  • You can peel off the skin or just leave it intact. Soak the apple slices into the sugar syrup that we made for about 2 hours. If the syrup has not yet cooled down, soak the apples into the water until the syrup is ready, this will prevent the apples from oxidizing.
  • Pat dry the apples slices or get a plate then put a wire rack on top of the place then lay the apple slices on top of it until the excess syrup dries off. Transfer the rack on top of a lined baking tray, and dust the apple slices with the cocoa seasoning.
  • Bake it for 40 minutes and repeat step on the other side until dry and crispy and they’re ready to serve.
  • Tips: If you have left overs, place the apples into an airtight container. For this recipe you can also use pears, bananas or your other favorite fruits.
