Instructions

Try these delicious homemade protein bars packed with all the protein you’ll need for your P90X nutrition plan. A cheaper alternative to store-bought protein bars but just as efficient and effective. Try it.

  • To make our protein bars, we’ll need to use the oven. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F or 175 degrees C.
  • It’s necessary to preheat the oven to give the oven enough time to reach the desired baking temperature. This will result in a more even baking process.
  • Prepare a 9 x 13 baking pan or a cookie tray. Line this with non-stick baking paper or lightly coat with canola oil. Wipe off excess oil with a kitchen towel.
  • I would suggest using baking paper as this is more effective. It is also easier to clean up after baking.
  • Accurately measure and prepare all ingredients indicated in the recipe above.
  • Aside from skim milk, you may alternatively use half a cup of flax milk, almond milk, or soy milk for this recipe.
  • Aside from honey, you may also use maple syrup instead. Maple syrup gives the bars a distinct smell and flavor making it interestingly palatable.
  • Take two mixing bowls. In the first bowl combine all dry ingredients – whole oats, Whey protein powder, flax seeds, grape nuts, and dried cranberries. Stir and mix the ingredients to combine.
  • Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients by pushing the ingredients to the side of the bowl. Set this aside.
  • Take the second bowl and pour in all wet ingredients into this bowl. Pour the skim milk, honey, unsweetened apple sauce, and two egg whites.
  • Instead of buying apple sauce, you may simply microwave a few apple slices and puree them to create your own apple sauce. It’s a great way to save extra money.
  • Using a wire whisk, mix the mixture vigorously until all wet ingredients are well combined. Pour this at the center of the well created in the dry ingredients.
  • Combine the dry with the wet ingredients. Mix until all the dry ingredients are moistened and there are no visible dry spots in the batter.
  • Pour your protein bar batter into a lined baking tin or cookie tray. Spread the mixture and flatten it until it’s around a centimeter thick. The batter should be enough to create around 12 protein bars.
  • Bake this in the oven for 35-40 minutes. Check that a cake tester inserted in the middle portion comes out clean.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool in a wire rack. Once cooled, cut them into bars, wrap in plastic wraps and store in the freezer until ready to eat.
  • Enjoy!
