I'm currently in my 8th week and I've been exercising all along. So far this week, I've been a little busier than normal and haven't gotten any exercising accomplished (this is day 4 of my week). All along I've had a one pound loss every other week and have found it a little frustrating. I know a loss is a loss, but I've never cheated, so the one pound every other week is a little disappointing. So far this week, I'm down 2. HALLELUJAH, I am finally going to break the 1 pound every other week trend! I find it odd that the week that I'm breaking the trend is the week that I haven't made the time to exercise!.
Do you find that you lose faster if you don't exercise? Just curious. I don't want to give the exercise up because I don't want to lose muscle mass with the fat. If I'm going to lose slower with exercise, then so be it. I am just interested in what others's experiences have been..
I have experienced this too. I had a lower back issue that kept me from my usual routine some weeks. I'm a slow loser, too, butI have noticed better losses in weeks I do less..
It seems counterintuitive to lose more weight without exercise, and I don't want to get out of a good habit. So I just do what I can, stay OP, and hope for the best! :-).
I absolutely lose weight faster when I don't work out. I've gone a few weeks (not in a row, but in total) and not exercised because of strained calf issues - I lost three pounds each of these weeks. When I work out? I average about a pound, sometimes two pounds if I'm very, very lucky..
Actually I've been exercising all along too, normally I go at lunch at work. Well for two weeks my works has gone nuts and I haven't even take a walk ince and I've been losing really good. I thought it would have the opposit effect. Either way I don't plan on stopping. I like the muscles I see coming out and the bounce in my step from being more fit..
Not including the first week, I averaged about 2.8 pound loss per week before I started running (week 2-8), although I was walking 3x week. I am now averaging 2.3 pounds since I have been running. I am now 41 pounds lighter, though. But my legs, abs, and butt have really started to firm up and get definition. I think the key is as long as you are not hungry, tired, or cranky (ie in starvation), it likely isn't affecting your weight loss too much..
I have been wondering this as well, with a less controlled analysis to share because my exercise has been pretty spotty for the last couple weeks (1 day or 2 days a week) so it's been there, but not much. I am losing really slowly overall (1-2 lbs week I think)and honestly I am not even tracking weekly loss too closely, just overall loss. I got on the scale every day during the first 6 weeks and it became unhealthy and compulsive..
So I will continue to wonder, but not really do anything to change this because it's the right thing to be doing overall. I just owe myself the benefits of exercise for my health. Like all of you, not gonna let a slow loss trend deter me from staying the course, however long..
I am not chimming in about the exercise because I haven't started that yet. But the one lb weight loss a week or every other week is frustrating! I figure it to be 70.00 a lb or 35.00 a lb. since one week on Medifast is about 70.00 and at that rate, I am really going to be broke..
Don't get me wrong, a weight loss is a weight loss and I am happy for that. I just don't want to be on Medifast any longer than I have to be. My wallet will thank me if I go ahead and speed it up. I do have the power to do this..
I read a couple of blogs this week that really REALLY opened my eyes to the why of my slow weight loss recently..
When I found out we could have unsweetened almond milk, PB2 as a condiment and other delicious additives, I went nuts. Oh, and I have had some real nuts lately too. I even was adding 2 tb of cool whip to my brownie and a drizzle of sugar free chocolate syrup to my nightly brownie. I guess if I continued to rock on like this, I would have added some nuts to it to and told myself I was OP..
So this week and for now, I am just going to do the food the way it was intended. And I think this week or next I will be rewarded on the scale. I hope!.
Good luck to you whatever you decide : exercise or not. As a side note, my awesome doctor told me that I could lose weight without exercise, but couldn't keep it off without it. As much as I hate to exercise, I guess we gotta become friends at some point, maybe transition?.
I absolutely find I lose faster when I don't work out. From the beginning I have continued to walk the dog for 30 minutes every day. But I have cut down the gym time. Not only could I not manage to do what I was doing before MF, but I get really hungry. I still go to the gym, but only for about 20 - 30 minutes of moderate, not strenuous, exercise about 4 times a week. I lose slower, but I prefer to do it as to not..
I lose faster when I don't work out too. BUT when I do work out, I find my body fat and measurements have big decreases. So I don't pay attention to the scale when it's not going down - and check my body fat and measurements. I don't care about the weight when I know I'm gaining muscle - which is burning more fat while I sleep. Now that's what I call efficiency..
Yes. I went back to exercising heavily this week and had a zero loss. School starts this week, so I won't be in the gym as much. I know I will see a loss..
I didn't exercise (in a routine) the last time or now and averaged 4 lbs. a week. I told the Dr. this and basically I said, I'm fat and out of shape (grossly at the time) and I can only take care of one problem at a time. Frankly I wasn't in good enough shape to get in shape. I'm not suggesting it's right for everyone, or any one should stop exercising, but it worked for me, and I lost incredible bulk..
My health coach advised me to cut back on exercise or to add in more lean protein if I wanted to exercise and lose, you can't live on such low calories and exercise more off- sends your body into starvation mode and you will hang on to pounds that way. When I don't exercise, boom- drop, when I do, loss is slow. I choose to exercise and know that I will lose more slowly and am okay with that. (PS- I also add in extra lean protein on days when I work out, it helps).
I did not exercise at all when I did this the first time. I needed to lose the weight, I added in exercise in transition and some of it was just doing more in my life. Now I'm looking toward a half marathon. I restarted yesterday and plan to hold off on my running and just walk this week and next and then add in. I should be at or near goal by the time I need ot do long runs for my training and at that time I will change up my eating..
Over the months I did this program those who exercsie don't lose as fast weighwise, but they lose inches and fit in smaller clothes faster!.
I am used to running 10-12 miles at a time. Need to lose 40#. Started one week ago. I lost 8.2 the first week. I ran 11 the first day, 10 the second day. I was unable to run M-F due to busy work schedule but ran Sat and Sun this week end 10 miles per day..
I did not eat any extra calories. Stayed the say between Sat weigh in and Sunday..
I don't want to lose my conditioning to run 10 miles but I don't want to hinder my weight loss..
I did eat extra protein today and little more fat. Hope this will work. I no longer lose weight on a regular diet and exercise..
Same as me. I never exercised, other than playing golf a few times a week, and averaged 4 pounds a week, which as a woman, I was thrilled with. Healthwise, I needed to get the extra weight off as quickly as possible and didn't really want to take a chance on exercising and slowing things down. Also, it turned out it was a lot easier to get myself into good shape starting at 145 instead of 245. I do have to exercise a lot to keep myself at that number but it's not that hard when you're not hauling around an extra person all the time..
With the exception of mowing the lawn or cleaning the house, I didn’t exercise at all the entire time I was on MF. Now that I’m in transition I’m at the gym three days a week doing weight lifting and cardio. Since I have started transition I am two pounds below goal. Exercise is good and will help you reduce the amount of muscle lost along with the fat. But it really isn’t a requirement on this plan..
I lost my first 150 pounds with no exercise...I did lose muscle as well as fat...now Im at the gym because I "can" I never could before lol... I try to limit how many calories burned while on 5/1 and 4/2.
I practically discontinued all exercise when I started MF. I used to do 1 hour every single day - 2 days per week with a personal trainer. Now I do at most 20 minutes of mild exercise 3 days per week. For me, the amount of calories I take in is not enough to sustain any intense exertion. After I get back to a more "normal" calorie intake I will return to a more intense exercise regimen..
This is a little off my original topic, but interesting. I was thinking about this too. I am in my eighth week of MF. So if you get right down to it, I've paid $640 to lose 23 pounds. When I think about all of the money I've spent on weight loss in my life, I would probably be rich right now if I had all of that saved up in a bank account! Yes, Medifast is expensive, but I believe that it is absolutely worth it, even when I have the slower losses. The last time I did weight watchers, it took me five months to lose six pounds, and I am not exaggerating! For the past six to seven years I've been struggling with a metabolic mitochondrial disorder and have had a lot of issues losing weight.
So the fact that I've found this and that it's working feels almost like a godsend..
I've been on Medifast for eight weeks now, and I don't mess around with almond milk, PB2, etc. I feel that would be a slippery slope for me, so I just avoid that stuff altogether. I do have the optional snack on days that I exercise, and I will use the SF syrups, but very limited..
Thank you for all of your responses. I think part of my struggle is that I want to see instant gratification on the scale. I love the idea of seeing a big drop in the number. But the thing I have to keep in mind is that there is a bigger picture here, and it's not about the number! I have to force myself not to get ahead of myself and to keep perspective!!.
I have never been able to lose weight without exercise. It has just never happened for me. Maybe this is the first plan that would allow me to do it. BUT, if I can lose weight, I feel that it will be at the expense of my lean muscle mass. After thinking about what my real goals are, I have decided that if I have to sacrifice losing poundage at the scale in order to preserve lean muscle mass, then so be it! Take a look at the photo below and you'll understand what I mean..
If I'm exercising and only lose one pound at the scale, but am losing a greater number of inches, this is progress! Better to lose the nasty fat than the pretty muscle. The muscle takes up less space, but looks so much nicer. Better to sacrifice the nasty fat! If you are losing weight but not exercising, you are sacrificing the lean muscle mass along with your fat. You need to exercise to preserve the muscle, namely, do some strength training..
This is not true for everyone, but this is true for me, as I've been lifting weights regularly for the past 15 years. If I were to stop now, I would not be doing myself any favors. Especially if my motivation is just to drop weight faster on this program..
Thanks for helping me to work this out in my own mind..
I am losing the same about as before I started exercise BUT I am only doing yoga 20 mins x2 a week and one 30 min session a week, I'm also hula hooping for about 5 mins every other day..
I also do not exercise the day before I weigh in..
