Hi guys. New here but have done a similar program years ago and lost over 140 pounds. Thankfully I've never regained it all but need to get back to a reasonalbe weight. Mainly my issue health wise is pain in the joints which is made much worse by the extra pounds. Had a knee replacement and need one more and then would like to be as active as I used to be. Skiing is way up there on my list..

I started Medifast at 306 (50 pounds down from my highest in 1997) and am now at 289 after 2 weeks. I am not a fan of the shakes so mostly do the soups and bars, with occasional shake here and there. I especcialy like the chili which I enhance with more chili powder and some beef soup base..

My biggest challenge is my carreer as a Chef. I have to taste food all day and sometimes it's hard not to do more than that. But I'm determined to get to goal this time around...and stay there..

    John.

Hi John, welcome to MF. It sounds like you are doing well, congrats on that. I started Medifast because of my knees too and after 10 months, I'm still in love with this program..

I read somewhere else that another chef/cook would taste something and then spit it out. I don't know if that's an option, but if it's not I would just do the best you can and not worry about it. You're obviously working the program!.

Just make sure that once you reach goal that you go through the transition and maintenance thoroughly. It seems to be key in helping us keep the weight off..

Hi John...Welcome!! I get the pre-made shakes..they are not a favorite but they are so convenient and I feel like they fill me up! I too love the chili...with salsa.

You seem like you are determined and have a plan...Im not sure how I would be as a chef..I have a hard time cooking for the kids!!! Look forward to seeing you around! Mary.

Hi John, Welcome to MF. I am just starting wk 4 and have found that I like some meals and can just tolerate some others. I like the plan and the fact that my meals are controlled makes it so much easier to follow. I don't have any real suggestions on how to help you with handling the tasting at work, can you get a designated taster to check the foods for you? Just kidding, I am sure it is going to be difficult but you are already down 17 lbs so you can see that it works. Just stick to the plan and let it work for you..

Good Luck. Keep coming back to the boards for support and inspiration to keep you on track..

Thanks folks. The real problem with tasting all day is that it makes me want the food. So spitting it out won't help. But I'll be ok. Just have to remember what I'm doing. Losing fat to feel better!.

    Hey John,.

Welcome to MF! Great to have you join the group..

I can understand your issue, though I do not need to taste food, I do work for a candy company support product development, SO, the temptation is there for me as well..

One of the things to watch out for is your taste does change as you start to move away from the salt and fat, so you need to keep that in mind. I used to be a heavy salt user, then came on plan, and often when I eat out, I feel there is too much salt in the meal..

I do find, and I remind people often, while we are on this plan our tastes do change so you might not like something now, but in a few months it could be your favorite..

    Good luck and keep connected!.

    Thanks Bob..

Being around candy would be hard for me too! And thanks for the heads up about the taste change. I do cook from some recipes but mostly not, so I adjust for salt, herbs, acid, etc. as I go..

The food itself is ok as long as I can ammend it a little. Like the chili. Needs tons more chili powder and a little heat, but it's by far my favorite so far..

John, most of us have found that not only do our tastes change, but our craving go away. I am a chocolaholic and yet I have not been tempted once when around sweets. Medifast keeps me very satiated..

I am on week 4 and have lost 18 lbs. This is the first night I have used a recipe provided with the plan. I made the Stuffed Portabella Mushrooms. I have been spending as little time as possible on my L/G meal. This was so delicious! I stuck with the recipe and ate one serving but now I am worried I will gain because I just can't see how anything that was so good could not cause weight gain! Happy to have found this website and this group.
