IrishMando - pretty sure the consensus on this topic will be to drink water...however, life happens...I can tell you, from time to time, I'll have 2 glasses of wine...once I had 3...I see a dip in my weight loss on the weeks I imbibe and fail to compensate with a commensurate increase in exercise or other activity...when I signed up, I was drinking my share of beer (and probably a few others' share as well...)...since I started back in February, I haven't had a beer. On this board, if you look at the nutritional content of wine versus beer, beer is worse for you...basically fermented sugar....
So, I signed up then asked about alcohol and the answer I got is the one I just penned...you shouldn't, but if you do, you need to up your exercise....
Again, I think you'll find as others weigh in on this, the consensus will be to fight the urge, drink your water, and stay on plan....
Thanks for the advice, guys... 4 weeks without a beer, so far. I would not have believed that I could do that. Let's see how many more I can make it....
IM - I haven't had a beer since Feb 11...a NEW WORLD RECORD!!!...but...you're down over 27 lbs and I'm down over 75...I'll go a few more months before my next beer to get the rest of my weight off....
No alcohol for me for nearly 15 weeks, including two conventions where I typically drink too much. Looking forward to a cold beer or Jack and diet in the future, but I can wait another few months. It will be so worth it in the end..
The wife referred to me today as "Mr. Skinny" which I know isn't quite true yet, but made me feel great anyway!.
15 weeks? Two years? That's awesome dedication to the cause..
I'm still beer-free after 5 weeks..
I can definitely see a lot less beer in my future, even after I hit my goal. Vicious cycle of drink, then eat too much, then get to sleep to late, then being stressed, and then having more desire to drink the next night. Next thing I knew, I weighed 307 lbs. I can't restart that cycle..
My brother got married a few weeks ago... drank way to much beer and a little to much captain morgan... along with 3 days of not being on plan with lots of fried foods and good cajun food.
It set me back big TIME gained 10 pounds and 2 weeks later I am still trying to get it off.
@CajunXF4 - Question: Do you regret it and is it something you would avoid in the future? I ask because I've had to do more and more soul searching as my goal approaches. My wife and I were just discussing our 'stop point' today, ie, the point where we say it's time to purge the house again and get strict. We decided that 10-15 lbs is probably the highest we'd tolerate after spending so much effort. Ideally we'd keep closer to goal but I have a streak that I call realism and many others call pessimism. Jump start is relatively easy..eat what they tell you, avoid what they tell you and exercise like they tell you. The hard part comes when we're back on our ownsomes..
I'm female, but I had to intrude. It's not just guys who like the beer I'd never dive off-plan for a Bud (as I don't consider it a beer), but it's getting nuts..
I begged out of 2 study sessions because one was taking place at a pub that has a divine porter, & the second was at the home of someone who brewed. I live in Beerlandia and it's so much a part of local culture it's insaneplus I like the stuff. Not like I have any desire to join the hipsters when they 'ironically' drink PBR, but reading about all the brewfests and tastings coming up is killing me. We have a full month DEDICATED to beer here, though you could easily find an event at any point in the year..
Sorry guys...had to vent. We now return you to your testosterone-based programming..
I dont regret it b/c it was memories made. We like to drink and eat good food down here. Being that I am so close to goal doesnt help. I have been slacking and cheating more than I should..
I am currently at my first goal... But I pushed it to 250 instead of 275. I am to the point where I will take my time to get to 250... Once I am there I wont let myself get above 260 without getting back on plan 100%. My mom has done this for 6 months being off plan.... She calls 10lbs higherthan her goal weight the alarm weight to get back on plan... luckily she hasn't had much trouble..
If I ever attend another Cajun wedding, I would definitely be off plan. I wouldn't think twice. I probably wouldn't eat or drink as much as I used to, just because I'm older and more boring than I used to be. You guys know how to live down there. I was "adopted" by the great people around Lafayette for several years, and my heart still belongs to the bayou..
It sounds like you and your mom have the right ideas. I think about how I will "return" to "normal" life after I reach goal. My biggest concern is how to keep from getting back into that cycle Irishmando spoke of. I've got a long time to figure that out though..
Bjorney, I haven't even missed not drinking beer... until I read YOUR post! That "divine Porter" made my mouth water. AND There is something very sexy about a woman that knows and loves good beer..
Food wasn't what got me fat, it was beer, and even now I still miss it. It's gonna be really hard this weekend to stay OP because the Yard House is near the convention that I will be going to, and even now I am thinking about the half yards of beer. Still haven't decided if I will break down and have one..
Don't break down, it's seriously not worth the set back and it'll always be there in the future if you choose to later. I know it's tough, I pretty much love anything dark enough that you can't see the glass, but you'll have to lose what you gain if you do. One beer will do it mess you up. Best to just stay away and know you'll hit your goals that much sooner..
I am dude, so I drink beer only on parties . We just take some wines specially red wines . We all friends are seduced by red wines. We love to eat chicken with some butter.
If you wanna loose weight you have to skip liquor otherwise forget , you can't loose weight.
Born and raised in lafayette, la!! yay! i love seeing all you people who have experienced my culture :D so to say the least, i understand the temptation to get crazayyyy at a cajun wedding. I was supposed to attend one this weekend actually but my dog is giving birth to some adorable schnauzer pups so i think it was divine intervention! I will not be attending the wedding and gaining 10 lbs! sad to miss it, but im happy that i'll still be moving forward OP.

How much? How often? And how does it correlate with your weekly loss (or lack thereof?).
Light beer? Hearty microbrews?.
Quandry: Next week's Memorial Day cookout... to have a beer or not have a beer... how much will it set me back?.

1. we are dudes. dudes like a beer now and then.
2. as dudes, we loose weight on medifast pretty easy. A beer once in a while is a minor setback.
A beer every few weeks might not be the best, but it aint going to kill you. Just don't drink a six pack at a sitting..
Fyi.
Miller 64.
Has only 64 calories and 2.4 carbs. If you ask me, a couple of those takes the place of one of the medifast meal hahahah.
