Going to an Italian restaurant tonight for a birthday celebration. I've already scanned the menu online and best L&G choices seem to be:.

Grilled salmon on a bed of arugula and spinach or.

Caesar Salad w/grilled tiger shrimp (though wouldn't be enough protein ... could I have a little caprese salad to supplement the protein?).

Whenever I go out I either order steak and a veggie, or a cesar salad. I always order double portion for the chicken and it ends up being just about the right amount. I'm sure you could do the same with the tiger prawns. Just don't forget to say no crutons, and dressing on the side. The salmon sounds good too! Good luck.

I agree with ms. pretty: When we go out, I just simply tell the waiter what I want. If they can make a chicken pasta dish, it means he has chicken back there somewhere. If all else fails, get a steak and tell the how many ounces that you want to have, then a salad and double veggie if need be of spinach or the old standby- broccoli. It will get much easier with practice..

I find the meat and veggie choice much easier than the salad choices. There are things in salad that you either forget to not ask for or don't realize they are there. It's much easier to say "grilled salmon PLAIN" and then "PLAIN steamed broccoli" or in your case arugula and spinach - course you will have to ask if they put any butter or anything on that arugula/spinach. Is there a nutrition page on the website?.

It is possible and you can eat really "well" at restaurants..

You can almost always find something. Just ask..

I agree with everyone - I have learned over the past year that there is no need to feel restricted by a menu. Look for the ingredients and then ask for it the way you want it..

I always order a grilled steak or grilled fish with steamed veggies... no sauce, no butter, no oil. If I order a salad I sometimes get 2 or ask for a double salad in one bowl. Always order a salad with no croutons, no cheese, no dressing, and no chic peas..

I am repeating a story here, but there are so many newbies it's worth it. I once went to a restaurant that only had bar food on the menu. Everything was deep fried or a sandwich smothered in cheese and sauce. The best thing I could find was a philly cheesesteak sandwich. I ordered it with no bread, no cheese, no peppers, no onions, no mushrooms, no sauce. The waiter looked at me cross-eyed and said , "ya know, you are just going to get 2 slices of steakums on a plate, right?" I replied, "Perfect! Can you bring me a big salad of just lettuce and tomatoes with that?".

    There is.

    Always.

    A way!.

Thanks all! I feel armed. The fantastic thing about this program is the lack of hunger, which makes me feel completely prepared to order my way, where I would have gone directly for the steak medallions in gorgonzola wine sauce before!!.

    And funny story, Jill!.

    Last night's dinner ....

    Skipped the champagne toast..

    Skipped the bread..

    Skipped the wine..

    Skipped the cake..

How I felt afterward after still enjoying my salmon and time with my friends ... priceless!!.

Glad you had success. Its a big relief to get past that 1st "out" meal. You can eat just about anywhere. Never be afraid to ask for "special" things. Remember.... they are there to serve YOU..

I am going to a Tapas place tomorrow night. Luckily their portions are small. I was thinking of just sticking with fish and veggie options. Any tips?.
