Well I went to the doctor today because I have a nasty case of strep throat. While I was there they took my height and weight. I graduated high school at about 6’3 inches. So I always just rounded up to 6’4”. My height today was 6’2”. The doc said that being fat all those years compressed the cartilage in my spine, causing me to lose height.
Now all the calculations I have done to get a healthy weight need to be redone and my new goal is 190 pounds (193 is the top of healthy BMI). So it would appear I’m not as close to goal as I thought I was. I know how a lot of you guys feel about BMI, but I’ve never been at a healthy BMI and I really want to try it on for size. It’s just a little frustrating to be so close and then have to redo everything and realize I still have more work to do. I guess on the bright side I get to hang out with you guys longer..
Edit: I guess you can't put W-T-F in the title. Dang burn swear filter!.
I would think if you still have the same skeleton, you would go by your old height. Just my thought. Also, you are always shorter in the afternoon , than you are first thing in the morning..
I always wondered too, when a person loses weight, do they lose fat on the bottom of their feet causing them to shrink?.
Edit: Sorry I just noticed this is on the "Guys" forum..
Those are all good points. Yes, you are taller in the morning but not by a whole lot. Plus my appt. was at 9:15 am. I'm not sure how much fat I lost on my feet. I do know that some people who lose a lot of weight drop a shoe size..
BTW, it's ok to post in the guys forum. We only penalize people for that on Tuesdays..
I was thinking of doing that. I have noticed lately that my posture sucks. I think it is because I always used to slouch to make my gut seem smaller, at least to me. When I looked down at it from above it looks smaller..
BigD - I'm sorry to hear you're down to 6'2", but that does NOT take away from the 127 or pounds you've lost...I know it's a kick to the gnads getting set back another 10 lbs from your goal, but, dude, you're still someone I look to everyday for inspiration. You're putting up moster numbers, you're making a difference in your life, and you've taken complete control and accountability. You're completely focused on your goal and I believe whatever line in the sand number you pick, you'll reach..
I'm living vicariously through your success and hopefully in a week or three, I'll be joining you in the century club. Hang tough...you've come a long way and you still have a little more to go...which you'll do with your eyes shut. Thanks for your words of encouragement and keeping us all motivated..
While I do appreciate the sentiment, you have no need to live vicariously through my successes. You have been successful on this plan and putting up some monster numbers in you own right. I don’t mean to sound insulting but we all know that as we get older it’s harder to lose weight. Even without the advantage of youth you have committed yourself to losing the weight and already made remarkable progress. I have no doubt that you will hit the 100 pound mark and beyond. Plus, you are way more active on this forum than I am. So if anyone should be thanked for encouraging and motivating the rest of us it’s you brother..
Be careful not to get too thin! I've seen photos of a few guys here and they look way TOO thin. You already look GREAT. You shouldn't obsess about a number. No manorexics!!.
Hey Jeff, I'm not sure but.... I think BigD just called you old. LOL.
Both you guys are my inspiration. I've lost a lot in the last few weeks, and that feels great. But in my mind is always the thought,"can I stick with it, can I really lose the weight I want to". When I see guys like you actually doing it, I know it is real. I know I can do it. Thanks to both of you for being so active on this sight, it helps more people than you know..

I've always been 5' 10.5" but I'd almost bet I'd come in around 5' 9" now. I think it's just something that we have to accept as we get older..
