Hi! How is everyone? I didn't notice an introduction thread here, so.... here we go :) It'd be nice if we could all get to know a little about each other.

I'm a 22 year old Canadian. I've been trying to get healthy for a while now, but have had many set backs. Finally, after figuring out that I have a sensitivity to gluten, dairy, tomatoes, potatoes and corn, I've been able to lose weight. It's been a long process and involved a whole lot more will power than I thought I could ever have, but things seem to be looking up.

I'm starting school next month to become a RHN(registered holistic nutritionist) and am really looking forward to being able to help others overcome their weight loss obstacles and reach optimum health through nutrition.

    Hi LoveBug.

Great, I was waiting for someone to start one... haha...

I'm 28 years old living in Boston. I used to be thin when I was in school, but gradually put on weight over the years... I work in a corporate finance job, working 50-60 hours a week, and it's taking a toll on my body.

I haven't done a lot of exercising the past few years, but am improving in that area. My main weakness is emotional eating.. when I get home, I feel so exhausted, and my willpower runs out, so I just reach for whatever comfort food I can get and eat it... it feels good, but then I regret it hours later.

I don't have a lot of weight I need to lose, but maybe 20 lbs would be great...

@lovebug what is the difference between a holistic nutritionist and a regular nutritionist?

    Part 1
    Hey, JuliaMoore!
It sounds like you have a pretty busy life and put a lot of time into your profession. I hope you are able to find some 'you' time in there somewhere, a nice bubble bath, a walk in a park, reading, whatever it is that you enjoy.
You're not alone with the emotional eating. It becomes a habit, and can be so hard to break. When you feel like you're eating for any reason other than hunger, what do you do? I'm still trying to overcome this, but it hasn't been easy.

    Part 2
The main difference between holistic nutritionist and traditional nutritionist is that a holistic one looks at the whole body and attempts to treat any imbalances, illness, pain and/or issues through herbs, proper nutrition and avoiding medications. We look at the mind, body and soul, not just the body and believe that when one aspect of the body is out of sync(whether it be body, soul or mind), that it throws off other parts of the body.
Traditional nutritionists tend to look at diet and treat pain and illness through proper nutrition, too, but don't usually focus on the whole body, leaving out the important mind and soul.

PS: Julia, I'm an emotional eater too. Food has always been my comfort. Some people can't eat when they're stressed out....I eat everything in sight! And PMS'ing....ACK! Food is all I can think about then!

Hi Julia, Melody, LoveBug and Shawnda! Gosh.. it would be nice to see a picture of you guys... or something distinct.. easy to confuse people when you have those default avatars... I'm sure you guys can come up with something better :)

Count me in as another woman who struggles with emotional eating... Ever since I graduated from school and started working, I just go home, and indulge in junk food at the end of the day. It's my weakness, and I can't help it! I know it's bad for you, but if I didn't eat, I probably would turn to drugs or alcohol, haha...

I wish you ladies lots of luck. I like this site so far... it's really making me motivated by giving me small goals to accomplish.

Hi everyone. I am jemimah. I am 22 years old. I have a bit of trouble sticking to an exercise routine compared to when i was in school. My aim is to be fit and healthy not lose weight. I weigh 60kg i think thats ok cos its all well proportioned. Nice meeting you all and i hope we all achieve our goals. oh and i also find it difficult to eat healthy 'cos of work. I tend to just eat what i can lay my hands on. I plan to cook more 'cos i believe thats the first step to eating healthy since i'l be able to monitor what i eat. I will be taking long evening walks and taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work and any other place necessary. I also plan to register in a gym and start swimming and dancing on weekends instead of staying home nibbling and watching series all day on my laptop. Wish everyone all the best with their goals again.

    Welcome Jemimah!

You look very fit based on your picture... And yep, taking long walks is a good way to stay fit, and get your exercise in. I'm a big fan of walking and slow activity. I know many people like to squeeze vigorous activity like running into 30 mins to offset their 8 hours of sitting on a desk, but I can't do that... I have to spread it out the entire day, which I think is what you're trying to do as well.

What TV series do you like to watch, btw?

@Lisa Welcome Lisa! 45 lbs isn't a whole lot if you take it a day at a time. That's what this site is for. Try a challenge at a time, and try to eat healthier gradually, and you will eventually reach your goal. Focus on the process.

Greetings everyone! I'm Shannon. I'm a 35 year old stay at home mom with roughly 50 pounds to lose. I'm currently doing Insanity and plan to make some serious changes to my body before May 27th! That just happens to be the day my son turns one! It's also my birthday! After Insanity, I plan to complete Insanity: The Asylum and P90X. Did I mention these workouts are killer?! But I'm committed to get in the best shape of my life! Anyway...enough about me...let's be friends! Good luck with your goals!

Welcome Shannon and Maria to SlimKicker!!!

@Maria 2 lbs a week is a good goal to strive for. I find if you lose too fast, you easily regain it as well

Hi guys! I'm Nicola and I have 29lbs to lose to get to my target weight! I love all kinds of foods, and I too am an emotional eater. I also have a lot of free time being a stay at home mom of two, so I'm looking to find a hobby that I might be able to develop into a business (Etsy, maybe?) and expand my horizons in learning and personal development.

Hello I'm Nicolette. You can call me Nikki if you'd like. I'm 24 years young. I have 3 wonderful boys (Aiden 4, David 3, Isaac 1) and I've been married for almost 4 years. David and I have been together for 6 almost 7 years. I sell health products for a living and I really love my job. I love to crochet, sing and do anything pretty much crafty. I'm at my goal but I have a hard time staying away from fast foods and soda. So my weight keeps flopping.

Hey guys, hadn't actually read the posts and posted yet, although I've been active on the website for a few days. I'm Amy, I'm 43, and have about 100-125 pounds to lose. I have had a lot of challenges with my thyroid, and some other health issues, although the docs are still arguing about what they are at this point. I am an avid gamer (currently playing star wars: the old republic), my kids are grown, and I'm a nurse at a local county jail. Shannon, my birthday is 27 May as well :) it's neat to share a birthday with you!

Lisa, talk to your doc about Armor or Natural Thyroid. Sometimes your body won't actually use the T3 that the synthetic stuff gives you, and that results in it really not helping you much at all. My doc switched me to Armor 4 months ago, and I feel SO MUCH BETTER it's amazing:)

Good luck to all of you :)
