This might be a silly question but for those of you who have tried both, what is the difference between the two in terms of taste and consistancy. Also, what are your favorite things to do with these?.
I like the sloppy joe way better than I thought I would, and the chili way less. The chili is better if you soak it overnight, but it still lacks much taste unless you add a fair amount of seasoning to it. I like the sloppy joe just as it is, or over a bed of lettuce with some LC cheese on top as a sort of nacho salad. But everyone's taste is different..
I like them both. I soak both for a LONG time in beef broth instead of water (count as condiment, if you choose to do this way). For the chili, I also add some rotelle tomatoes to spice it up a bit. Soaking, though is critical.
When I first ordered both of these meals, I returned them for an exchange! But I missed having something hot for lunch. So I tried them again and this time soaked them for many hours before microwaving like everyone suggests. That REALLY helped the chili. Then I add some salsa and a little LC Mexican cheese blend to the chili and stir it up. Not so bad after a while. I also sometimes throw a packet of the Veggie Crackers in the Sloppy Joe to give it more volume. Just watch the extra carbs from those crackers..
Thanks everyone. I have some chili that has been soaking overnight. I will have it later on today. Tomorrow I will try the sloppy joe after soaking overnight..
Hmm, I'm eating the chili right now and I love it! I did add cayenne pepper and onion powder BEFORE soaking it overnight. I think it has a slightly sweet taste and I like it alot. I can't wait to try the sloppy joe tomorrow!.
I was talking about this on another thread. I haven't tried the chili but ordered one pack of the sloppy joe and it wasn't too bad!.
At work I accidentally added too much water so it turned out as a sloppy joe soup, but I thought it would be great over some pseudo noodles made with zucchini, or even spaghetti squash..
I am a vegetarian so I am used to the TVP in the sloppy joe and the texture of fake meat. I have been adding 1/2 cup of boiling water and letting it hang out covered for like 15 min or so. Then I will briefly warm it. I add tabasco too. Today I also added a little too much water so it was thinner more like a chili (depending on what part of the country you are from.

I haven't tried the "chili" and probably won't. Beans do not belong in chili..
