Today at pratice didn't go so well. My coach basically called me out for having to take a break because I was checking my blood sugar (I'm type 1 diabetic). It hurts what people have to say sometimes. Any ideas to help lift my mood?

I am very happy with the changes to my body. We just had winter formal yesterday and honestly, I looked pretty good in my dress! Thanks Slim Kicker!

Today was hard. Especially being a teen out with friends at lunch is hard. Trying to pick out the healthiest thing at a place is difficult. Somehow I managed to pull it off, but it's really akward when you have to explain to them why as a fifteen year old you are worrying about calories. Does any body have any advice? Thanks and have a good weekend!

Call your coach out for being an idiot. Seriously, sometimes you have to stand up to people like that. Tell him you're going to need to do that at times and it's part of your health and well-being, and it's part of his job to support that. He may be astonished and you may gain some confidence from it.

Hey don't take his comment to heart. You know you're situation and how much you've had to overcome. The number one thing is to not give up and believe in your ultimate goal.

Tell your coach that unless he wants you to go into a sugar low and pass out, he needs to put up with it nicely. If that does not work, tell someone like a vice principal or head of the sports department. Pushing yourself for a sport is a good thing, but if you have health concerns, you can't ignore those. If you pass out at practice, that's on him.

Write down everything you eat and make small changes. Walk on your lunch hour. Drink lots of water. Good luck.

It's amazing that you are taking that step to a healthier u so young! I wish I could have stuck to it in highschool. Here I am 29 and finally almost there. As hard as it is to make those good choices and have the adding pressure of your peers. This is the start of something amazing for you!! Be proud of yourself for every step you take in this and remember that when u hit ur ugw the hardships you had getting there and what u had to give up will be another reminder of how far you've come <3 GL!!

There will always be the people who question your health choices no matter what age you are.

Good for you for taking control of your body!! I wouldn't explain about the calories. Just say you're trying to eat healthier and you feel better when you eat good things. Keep up the good work. The results will be worth it!

Its an issue i keep running into. Set up some rewards for yourself, but the hardest part is not to cheat.

Calorie counting is a necessary evil to get the healthy lifestyle that you seek. I wish it were not so. All I do is try to remember that what I DON'T log, DOES hurt me. And all my efforts to exercise are for nothing without controlling food intake. Nutrition actually makes up about 80%, exercise about 20%. Shockingly important.
