Just signed up to conquer the Mighty Mac! I'm sooo excited I could pee - maybe that's all the extra water I've been drinking. This is the run that I have been wanting to do for two years. Two years in the making and I want to be my best on May 25th!

Took a break from the site. Need to get back in the swing of things. Mostly need to track what I am eating and drink more water. Semester is almost done and then I can pay more attention to eating - or not eating as the case may be.

Haven't had time to post or log here at all. End of the semester so I might just be able to get back to it. I have been holding at my first weight goal and have continued to run. Also have added crunches and push ups everyday from a Challenge group on Facebook. Need to get back to more fruits and veggies and away from take out!

FINALLY GOT A RUN IN TODAY AFTER FOUR DAYS OFF!!! 373.31 MILES SO FAR THIS YEAR!! My goal was 371 for the year, it's only day 323 of the year. SEE WHY ALL CAPS IS A MUST HERE!!! If you really want something you can do it. I haven't been dieting, just trying to make healthier choices AND I still eat chocolate and chips once in a while. In the last 5 1/2 months I've lost about 17 lbs. Don't give up!

I am just 6.5 miles away from my goal for 2012. Should hit it sometime this week. I can't believe I've stuck with running all year and it has helped me lose over 15 pounds in the last five months.

Today I proved to my legs that I can do 10k. 6.43 miles, part of it walking with a friend at the park in the middle of my run but next week I will run most of it on my last big practice before the half marathon that my husband and I are going to split. http://www.facebook.com/BakersDozenBeerRun ~beer and donuts, 2 of my favorite things...

I think I'm going to really have a hard time keeping up with this. It is so hard to eat healthy at school. Guess I will have to pack a lunch every day... or try a meal replacement? 2nd day back to college and I start back to teaching Monday morning.

This article does a great job at explaining why you should avoid a drastic calorie deficit. You lose the wrong "weight" cause it cuts into your muscles not the fat that you are trying to get rid of AND that muscle is what burns more calories even when you are just sitting around. ~ http://www.active.com/nutrition/Articles/Eat-to-Build-Lean-Muscles.htm?cmp=291&memberid=133610763&lyrisid=26617963&email=jodilsween%40yahoo.com

Had a great day, well better then the last few. I'm on the mend, got a run in the rain, I leveled up this morning and I'm on my way to 13 (my favorite #) and I passed my first test I took towards certification to be a teacher. Still got a long road there, but it's a good day. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Okay, another day of feeling crummy. Wondering if it's a food hang over from our vacation this weekend. Or a virus, cause we are all feeling crummy in our house. Or a spider bite I got this afternoon. But again I thought I could run it out and it worked. Increased my distance a bit and still had an average of 13:02 /mile. Just 5 sec. over my best time, at a shorter distance. So glad I had a chance to get out tonight!

How exciting. I didn't know there was a bridge run. Good luck - what a momentous accomplishment ---to be able to run the length of our famous bridge.

    • img

      JennH2O2602 days ago

There are actually 3 chances to run it. Memorial Day, a Fall Color Run and the Labor Day Lotto. I am soooooo excited - this has been my primary goal since I started running in 2010. I'm not saying that I am running the whole thing but it's only up hill one way. What part of MI are you from? Saginaw County here.

    • img

      AngelEstep2602 days ago

That is such a great run! I did it last year, and I wanted to do it again this year, but my 20 year reunion is that weekend...ugh! So, NEXT year will have to be soon enough! It's seriously beautiful at 6am up there. Good luck to you!

    • img

      AngelEstep2602 days ago

Oh, and PS - be sure to train for the incline...I was not as prepared for it as I would have liked last time. Do a lot of hill work or incline treadmill work so that you can attack it with vigor!

    • img

      JennH2O2602 days ago

I live in the flat lands so I have been driving into Saginaw to run on the bridges. One has an incline of 7% and it's not easy but it's doable. I have a harder time on declines because of my knees. I strike harder taking advantage of the downward motion. No matter the outcome as long as I finish I will have accomplished my goal.

I'm curious; how do you know Tim Hortons? Do they have many/any locations in Michigan?

    • img

      JennH2O2783 days ago

They are pretty popular in Michigan. I don't travel out of state to see other areas much. Saginaw has two and one has a Coldstone Creamery in it as well. The Flint area has a couple but I'm not as familiar with the area, Clio has one and that is where I take my kids to piano lessons.

Cliff Builder Bars are so yummy and filling, those are my favorite meal replacements. Keep working hard!!

    • img

      msafiri2830 days ago

Meal replacements don't really work for me, I just end up thinking about how I skipped a meal too much. But think of all the money you save packing a lunch that you can use for fun things! Though I was never able to find the time in the morning until I discovered the joys of Sunday night bulk cooking.

    • img

      JennH2O2830 days ago

Tried the Cliff Bars before and didn't like them. It seems like all the "healthy" bars taste and feel like sawdust to me. I prefer Slimfast in Skim Milk, easy to drink while driving from work to school and I don't have to deal with texture. Meal replacements are not my favorite but they work well for me cause I don't have time to think about food.

This is why you should always eat your protein when dieting, and if you go over on anything, that's a good category to pick!

    • img

      JennH2O2836 days ago

But even too much protein can turn to fat if it's not being used by your body.

    • img

      TeresaM2836 days ago

I know - I don't mean like Atkins! Just to make sure you eat up to your protein goal and do some exercise so you can keep your muscle mass up.

    • img

That's okay. They look yummy! Especially the double chocolate ones. May have to try them but first I'll have to look into protein powders. Not big on supplements and would want to make sure they are safe for the kids.

Thanks gals! I'm not in that good of shape. Will probably do intervals of walking and running and at my fastest pace it will take me at least 1 1/2 hours to do 6.2 miles (10k), but that is the beauty of running, your only real competition is yourself.

    • img

      JennH2O2841 days ago

@Andrea If it really interests you look for a "1 mile fun run" by you and start training. Couch to 5k is a great program to train with, and you can even walk if that's your comfort level.
