I was bad this weekend. That's ok. I have my gym membership and my birthday cake and I will be super awesome this week.

I've started doing 10 pushups at random times in the break room at work. I think that's called progress toward a healthy lifestyle.
Woke up to a seriously terrible charlie horse in my left leg. Now I'm all annoyed and grumpy with the world. Guess I'm going to the gym tonight.
I can't be too ambitious or else I get kinda overwhelmed. So just focusing on the food part. I got breakfast down: eggs and bacon, oatmeal with fruit, or shredded wheat with fat free milk (which I should get points for!!). Now I have to work on lunch and dinner. What's a good sandwich to get? Salads don't fill me up.
Yay vacation for pushing me back to my original starting weight. Ugh. Didn't meet my goal for last month either. So I'm gonna super stick to my diet plan and stuff. Maybe focus more on the food instead of the exercise. Doing both together, especially since I'm not used to it, is a bit much.
Bleh, I'm starting to slip. I absolutely know why too. It's because I can't see anything happening, so I think nothing is happening and it's not working so why should I keep going? I'm sure everyone has this feeling, so I'm not surprised about it. Just a little down, ya know? But I was pretty good today, and might go to the gym to elliptical the feelings out. I've decided that's a verb now.
So I fully expect to go completely off track this week. Vegas can do that to you. But I'll be walking all day and using the gym and swimming, so hopefully I won't gain a billion pounds. Also, I think I'm in love with the elliptical machine <3
So I splurged because I graduated yesterday!! Yay! Now I have to get back to working out. I'm pretty sure I'm going to join my boyfriend's gym, which is 24 hours, so I have no excuse for not running on the days I'm not doing strength. I'm pretty proud of myself for that.
My treat for finishing my LAST EVER SEMESTER OF SCHOOL EVER IN THE WORLD? An entire grapefruit. I'm SO excited. I am all about some grapefruit.
So, I can see muscle when I flex and stuff. Like lots of muscle. But I'm not getting smaller, fat-wise. Do I need more cardio or something? I have a feeling that's what it is. I know cardio burns fat off a ton.
Definitely committed to getting a salad today. I've decided that as long as I eat as healthy as I can, getting a small amount of blue cheese dressing isn't the end of the world. If it makes me eat the salad, I think it's fine =)
Wow I did not follow anything this weekend. Granted, I'm scrambling to get my last homework assignments ever finished. But still. I'll be better tomorrow.
So putting in the food before I go out to eat does not really help me to stick to what I planned. Damn you, tuna melt! I still had some tuna though. And a tomato....I guess that's good. I am working out today, so some cheese isn't too much of a problem. I think I like this whoops I cheated a bit oh it's ok I'll burn it off thing that's going on. Makes me feel a LOT less bad about the times I slip up. =)
I can't believe I actually just went for an hour on that workout. I almost stopped 20 minutes in, but then I was like, I hate that my butt is jiggly, and those moves are at the end so....
Somehow, a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter and a chocolate croissant found their way into my mouth. And THEN I found myself holding another croissant in a bag wrapped up for later. I guess someone bumped into me or something. Weird.
I'm thinking of investing in a calorie counter thingie. You know what I'm talking about, I don't know the name for it. Does anyone have one? Which ones are good?
Is it terrible that I don't actually like salad? I really, really don't. The only way I can eat one is if it's dripping in blue cheese dressing which is now pretty much impossible for me to do haha. Other than that, it's like I'm eating grass. So bland. What else can I eat with vegetables in it?
Yay I bought a new purse. Still have to work on eating a bit better though.
Ok, so I wasn't the best this weekend, and this morning was hell (yay therapy appointments on Mondays...), but I am determined to do well at this. No matter how many times I mess up, I can always fix it. So. I promise I will work out tonight even though I'll be super exhausted.
Man it's the weekends that really get me. I really have to work on self control =( Well, I already knew that I was gonna workout tonight anyways.
Congrats! That's dedication. :-)
Try to get more potassium.
I agree with tercerero and drink more water too. Add a little bit of sodium too such as Nuun water.
Once I did a severely no-carb diet, and I got the WORST charlie horses. Took a potassium supplement, that did the trick, but a balanced diet is even better!
I had a banana this morning. That's what my coach used to give me when I pulled something. What else has potassium?
Fish, figs, melon, raisins, apricots, yogurt, fruit juices, almonds, beans, potatoes.
I have no idea if this actually works because it seems hard to find around here--but my mom's oncologist swears by alfalfa supplements as a way to treat charlie horses.
actually prevent not treat, sorry.
I usually bring stuff to make my own sandwiches. 98% fat free lunch meats, fat free cheese slices and mustard.
I'm kind of scared of fat free cheese. Does it taste ok?
Eh. The one's I've tried have been... underwhelming. But on the topic of sandwiches, check your store for Granny's Delight High Fiber Bread. It tastes pretty great, doesn't have any preservative junk in it, lots of fiber, and my favorite--only 80 calories a slice. I hate it when I go to enter a sandwich and the bread alone comes to over 300 calories.
Yay bread! Thanks for the recommendation. I usually go with a chicken sandwich with whole wheat bread. Sometimes there's cheese on there, but I feel like one slice won't kill me.
You could try a wrap or a burrito. I like making my own black beans in my crockpot, mixing them with flavored rice and a few veggies. If you make a whole batch at once, you can freeze them and have a bunch of ready-to-eat lunches.
I love the fat free sharp cheddar! I honestly don't think it tastes any different than the regular sharp cheddar. Not so such about the fat free or reduced fat american though. That can be a little weird.
sure not such
Eh I don't bother with fat free meat and cheese. Would rather enjoy the flavors more and eat less than eat more just cause it's fat free (and less tasty). As for bread, I really dig the Arnolds sandwich thins, they don't have crusts, a roll is 100 cals (two sides!), and I actually like the taste of the multi grain variety.
I actually love the taste of both the low fat meat and the fat free cheese. There is so sacrifice to me with eating it. Plus, I don't eat more of it. Just happens to be the same amount of food for less calories and fat.
No sacrifice not so sacrifice. Apparently I'm having an awesome typing day.....
Nice then! I just don't prefer the taste, so if I were to make a sandwich with those I'd just end up going out instead since I won't want to eat it.
Wow thanks you guys! I will be brave and try some non-tasty cheese. I'm kind of all about cheese.
Small steps are good! Keep your chin up! :)
Know that feeling, the secret is not to punish yourself, put it down to experience, learn from it and most importantly SMILE, when you smile it lifts your spirit, makes you prettier and pulls in the tummy.. even if it can't be seen on the outside ;-)
U will feel better if u do...fact!!
I know I will. Isn't it weird how that works? But I also have to pack, booooo packing! Luckily, this gym I'm trying out is 24 hours during the week, so I LITERALLY have no excuse not to go haha!
I had to kick my own butt. Thought I probably needed something for depression but was assured I need exercise for endorfins! Feeling better already and I've been going up and down 5 pounds for 3 weeks! Bet it stays off now!
Curlieq301 a tip for me is to finde ways to see that its working.
exampel stand on the balance once a week monday morning for exampel and then you migth see a diffrens from week to week. Also have some kinde of diary where your wrigth if you feel better or if you got stronger in somthing or maybe faster if you running.. Finde the changes that they eye cant see.
That verb is great!
Ooh! Tried one for the first time today! It was fantastic!
Watch out...that elliptical is a heartbreaker
It's alright, Parsley, we're not serious. I'm also seeing the thigh adductor on the side. You're hilarious =)
Congrats on finishing school!!!! I homeschool my girls so I like about 8 more years to go! But it is worth every minute I get to spend teaching them =)
Aww that's so nice! I'm sure they're getting such a good education =) But this day has been a long time coming. This is my masters, so I've been in school for like 18 years!!
Yeah grapefruit! My favorite is to sprinkle just a tiny bit of brown sugar on top of halves and broil them for like 3 minutes, it's amazing. And congrats on your masters, I know the feeling of being in school forever, I'm working on my PhD, which puts me in... the equivalent of 20th grade?
Congrats to you both! That is a BIG accomplishment :)
The good news is that as you build muscle, you will increase your metabolism and fat-burning even when you're at rest. I would continue with your strength training and perhaps increase your cardio by ten minutes or so a day. Also, just stick with it, sometimes are bodies are slower to catch up than we'd like.
I was also trying to build up my stamina so I would be able to run without dying haha. What's a good cardio for at home workouts?
Jumping jacks, jump rope, butt kick running in place, high knee running place, punching...hmm...what else?
Also you cant just focus on the training. You have to look over what you eat.
Follow the guideline from this site and you will see a weigth losse
How long have you been at it? I've been training for 6 months now and saw an increase in muscle but only recently do I feel that the fat is starting to fall off. I've been told by my trainers that this is normal. I, in fact, gained weight the first month.
It's been about a month, which isn't that long, but it seems like a really long time.
Slow is better. The results will come, unless there are extenuating circumstances. lol And really? You may not notice the bigger changes until you've gotten used to it as a lifestyle, and then only when you've left off for a while. Then you notice when you miss it. lol
Thanks guys. I'll have faith in the system and keep racking up points =) Oh and @tercerero, how do you get so many points?!
when i get salad, i dip my fork in the dressing first and then get the salad. that way i get dressing, but not too much. i'm not claiming this ALWAYS works, sometimes i get frustrated and dumping the dressing on anyway, but i figure it's worth a try lol.
Same here!!! I've been on SK for about 4 weeks now and salads have become a favorite of mine. I used to hardly ever eat one and now I have one everyday! I've never tried blue cheese been wanting too though. I usually have thousand island or Catalina :)
Man, Blue cheese will change your life. SO GOOD. But erin the dipping thing sounds doable. Usually I just put about half as much as I used to. I used to dump the entire little container/packet in there. HaCee, it gives me hope that you use normal dressings and it doesn't mess up everything =)
I just count the calories and go on. When I've had my calorie limit then that is it! (most of the time that is it unless I blow it lol). I am gonna try the blue cheese next time I go to the grocery store! *_*
Oh and Erin I like the idea about dipping too! I LOVE salad dressing next time I'm gonna dip lol. ;)
ranch is my weakness :( lol
OMG- make yours homemade- if you want to sub the mayo for plain yogurt you can- but the blue cheese & sour cream are sooooo good.
I am a fork dipper, too! You really do use a lot less that way.
@tercerero Heeeeeeeey I'm doing the 30 Day Shred challenge with you!
Oh no, I decided to restart on Sunday, because I needed to rest fully for a race Saturday. You're going to be a couple days ahead of me!
In all seriousness, I am a little upset at myself for that. I must exercise this away!
You Go! Good for you to have the motivation to exercise. That's what I need to work on.
Gosh don't ya hate it when food assaults you like that!! :D Don't beat yourself up too bad, and it could have been worse. Do some extra exercise today and maybe even tomorrow to balance things out.
MMMMM...chocolate croissant. I love those.
Heart rate monitor type thing, that can be used to help count how many calories you're burning. That thing haha
Like a fitbit?
To be honest, I haven't got a clue. lol But when I looked it up, I found this: http://www.webmd.com/diet/healthtool-food-calorie-counter
I use the Polar FT4 (I think that's the model). I searched a LONG time and finally decided on this one. It's easy to use and wear, and I found it on Amazon.com for a good price ($65, I think).
Yeah, tercerero, a fitbit type thing.
I have a MIO HR watch for petites, FWIW. Sometimes it takes a while for it to calculate HR, but otherwise I've liked it. Search for "Mio Drive Special Edition Petite Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch" on Amazon.com.
i only love salad when it's dripping in ranch. i've tried other dressings, and i've come to realize that without the ranch, i have no desire to eat the salad lol.
I could eat salad everyday. What about trying Tabbouli? Or adding Feta cheese or some sunflower seeds to add more flavor or crunch? I have a great recipe for Tabbouli:
What I do for liking salad is few greens and lots of different toppings: grapes, nuts, apples and low fat cheese. They are so many possibilities! Just mix what you like with a few greens. I don't really like lettuce, but mixed greens are okay for me.
I agree that feta cheese does wonders. I have also taken to heaping on wild rice or quinoa or something else a bit more hearty so I don't get hungry again quickly.
I honestly like greens, but my male compatriot doesn't - I usually make mixed veggie stir fry with tofu or meat and throw in a handful of greens in the last 2 minutes of cooking so they're tender but not too wilted. Same with omelets. I'll even steam some greens and mix them in with rice sometimes.
I recommend abandoning ice burg lettuce completely if that's your base. I'm also not a fan of spinach. The wife and I really enjoy arugula and more bitter greens. She then makes a great vinaigrette with olive oil, balsamic vinegar (we use pear flavored), lemon juice and some sweetener. Toss all that around, add some chopped red pepper and smoked salmon and you've got dinner-in-a-salad.
Well I don't have a go-to lettuce. I just grab one. I should be more adventurous and put different things on the salad. But I'm really really picky, like 4 year old picky, so it's hard for me to branch out. I will try feta on it next time. Thanks!
I'm not a salad fan either. What I do like are baby carrots, mashed sweet potatoes, celery sticks, Indian curried eggplant... I would say forget "salad" and look at what you DO like, then focus on what's good for you from that set.
@curlieq301 Hey, I got my superhero costume on, too!
