    Tasty Grain-Free Spice Cake: 2 c. cooked pinto/black beans, 1/2 c. cooked sweet potato or yam, 5 eggs, 1/2 Tbsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp salt, 5 Tbsp coconut oil, 1/3 c. sugar, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp each nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves. Blend all ingredients together in a food processor until very smooth, then spoon into a greased cake pan. Cook for 45-60 mins at 350 F.

    I finally found a grain-free cake that I love. It doesn't even use any of the alternative flours that you see in the supermarket, though the secret ingredient may surprise you. http://www.healthyindulgences.net/2009/05/healthy-chocolate-cake-with-secret.html

    Had my coffee black today, in an effort to cut down on sugar. After 5 days of the no-sugar challenge, it wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be!

    I keep finding new ways to use my kids as exercise equipment! Just bench pressed my baby a bunch of times, as kind of a wiggly dumbbell. :)

    I've been using the site for a week now, and already I'm noticing changes. Keeping track of my food intake showed me just how much sugar I was eating (yikes!), so I've been working on it since. Funny though, it's not as hard as I thought it would be. Once I started logging my sugar intake, my desire to eat it slowly evaporated. I didn't even look at the donuts that someone brought into the office yesterday!

    I watched Fat Head (the documentary) yesterday, and it's seriously making me re-evaluate the way I eat. I only wish that the film had included some general guidelines for diet at the end. I get that fat and protein should be bigger parts of my diet, but what percentage of my calories should come from each?

    You'd be surprised what pleasant company a baby can be on a walk. I dare anyone to feel lonely or sad when you've got an infant strapped to your chest! It's also great motivation: if you walk for long enough, you just might send her to sleep . . .

    In order to get my extra 2000 steps today, I strapped my 4-month-old to my chest and walked in a circuit around my apartment complex. I figure that she helped me put the weight on -- she can help me walk it off, too!

    Took a long walk in the park today with my family. I ended up with 3500 more steps than my daily average, and can't wait to do it again!

      Agreed. It's a lot tougher than I thought it would be. However, I'm finding that my capacity to taste sugar is increasing as I deprive myself of added sugars. I had a single orange-juice homemade popsicle last night and it completely satisfied my need for dessert.

      I tried a new paleo recipe called "Fried Cauli-Rice". Basically, you food-process the cauliflower down into rice-sized bits, steam or microwave until just cooked, drain the excess moisture out, then sautee with oil, veggies, meat and eggs. Since it didn't really "look" like vegetables at that point, my kiddo was happy to feed himself a whole bowl. If you like recipes like this, I'd definitely recommend the cookbook "Eat Like a Dinosaur" by the PaleoParents. :)
