i am officially down 25 pounds. :) that means i'm exactly half way to my first goal. :) and after i meet my first goal i'll only have an extra 15 to lose from there to get to my final goal. i thought it would never come off but slowly but surely it's happening. :)

had a 4th of july cookout yesterday and didn't do great with my diet plans, but still didn't have any soda, which used to be my biggest weakness. they were right, it DOES get easier with time. there are still things i struggle with, but it's a battle that i'm slowly fighting and slowly winning. :)

i've used more willpower in the past 2 days than i thought i had in me. i'm on a very very strict diet and in all honesty it hasn't been nearly as hard as i expected it to be. not to brag, but i am very proud of myself. 6 months ago i never would have stuck to this. :)

went out to dinner last night and ordered a soda (which i haven't had in about 2 weeks, it's been a very hard addiction to kick). on the bright side, when it got to the table it didn't even taste right and i sent it back and ended up with an unsweetened iced tea. i guess i'm finally over my need for soda. :)

i don't know how my kids are so tiny and i'm so huge. i resisted the pancakes i made them for breakfast and had a single healthy egg, lol. on the other hand, my 4 year old had 4 pancakes and my 3 and 1 year olds had 2 a piece. how does this work?! haha.

i know i have seen people on here who do the couch to 5k, and i have a question (others who don't do it can probably answer too.) it only instructs to walk, walk briskly, or jog. at what speeds have you used (or do you think would be appropriate to use) for these. i'm only on day 2 but so far i've done a 2mph walk, a 3.5mph brisk walk and a 4.5mph jog but i can't help but feeling that these may be too slow. thoughts? :)

did not so well at breakfast today. had french toast (although made with whole wheat bread, egg, and fat free milk) and used syrup. :( but then went out and flew kites with the kids, which proved to be quite a work out trying to keep them in the air. :)

I disagree work out clothes are the tools we use to make ourselves healthier, And as any craftsman will tell you better tools make for better work. You wouldn't trust a painter with a 99 cent brush would you? Buy the workout clothes and pick another reward, Just my 2 cents

    • img

      erinmiklas2873 days ago

well i didn't buy them in the beginning because i didn't want to buy them and then not stick to going to the gym and it be a waste of money. i have some workout clothes, i'm just rewarding myself with new, more expensive ones. :) and i can't think of any better rewards lol. i don't want to reward myself with things like food so it's the best thing i can think of.

    • img

      LittleBear2873 days ago

I did workout clothes as a reward! It's nice! You get something new and useful and it motivates you to keep it up!! Now you don't want to waste the money you just spent do you??? :D plus it's rewarding when the next set if workout clothes is smaller than the last :D :D

Logging everything is what keeps me on track. If tempted, I see what it would do to my green stripes, and often back off and find something better to eat. Or, if a food gives just one point, I look for something else that will give me 6 points or more. In a fun way, it breaks the link from impulse to folly, Jo

They are starting off with a clean slate. You have at least 20? or so years on them of eating not so healthy choices. Encourage healthy eating habits now so that they don't eventually end up where you are at when they get to your age.

    • img

      erinmiklas2908 days ago

yeah 20 to be exact on my oldest.. lol. i do feed them fairly healthy but if they're hungry i won't stop them from eating..

I am doing a similar program to couch to 5k..take a look at this website http://www.livestrong.com/article/528325-how-fast-should-you-run-to-get-in-a-fat-burning-zone/

    • img

      kac0382911 days ago

Disclaimer: I haven't done C25K, I started running after doing other cardio work so my body was already used to me doing moderately crazy things for an hour.. That said, my experience is to go by how your body reacts to the speed rather than by the numbers - if you feel like it's too easy, try speeding up, and if you are having a hard time, slow down. Greater speed will come as your body gets stronger.

    • img

      Ekk2911 days ago

Not too sure what speeds I'm going. Just trying to up my overall pace (last one on week 3 was 12:54min/mile). I've been averaging in the 10-12min/mile while jogging and 17-20min/mile when walking (trying to catch my breath usually :/).

    • img

      MommaBear802911 days ago

I would say push yourself. If you feel you can go a little faster than push the button on more time. If you need to slow back to what your currently doing you can always do that if it's needed.

    • img

      kuehnebe2911 days ago

I usually walk at 3mph, and jog at 5mph. Sometimes I go up to 6mph, but that's completely dependent on how fit I feel that day.

    • img

      Laurie Richter2911 days ago

I'm right at 3mph walk and between 4.5 and 5mph jogs. I'm not actually doing C25K. I'm just jogging as much as I possibly can and then walking to catch my breath before pushing ahead for more jogging. I've been doing this for about two months now and am at 4 minute jogs to 1 minute walks.

    • img

      JennH2O2911 days ago

Listen to your body. Everybody is a little different but you want to try and challenge yourself. Personally I have short legs so I really have to scramble to run 5 mph. If you have a longer stride you may not have to work as hard to run so listen to your body. And push a little harder to make gains.
