being healthy is so much harder when you have so little money to spend on food. it makes the obesity epidemic a lot more understandable when you have to choose not only what is cheapest, but what will keep you full longest. health often does not even come into play when you are just trying to survive.

I love the difference in generations- my best friend and her husband always laugh about my big ass with me because it's one of the things that makes me unique and I'm at the point where I like it. My parents still react with, "Don't say that! You're not fat!" when I talk about it. Dudes, I never said I was FAT, I pointed out the fact that I am CURVY. And I always will be, no matter how much weight I lose.

Getting over the self-consciousness that kept me from being an active person little by little. Went running once it cooled off last night and didn't think about whether or not anyone was "staring" at me. I think insecurity can be more of a hindrance than laziness.

My living situation has presented itself to be counterintuitive to my goals. My in-laws, who I live with, are wonderful people, but not very healthy, and they tend to poke fun at me while I am exercising during commercials. I try to ignore them and just do my thing, but it gets harder to motivate myself off the couch on my day off when that happens. I am still going strong, but with just a little less confidence, unfortunately.

I've lost 8 pounds so far, but that is just the tip of the iceberg for me. The problem I am having is moving past this idea that weight is the most important measure. I have always weighed far more than it looks like I weigh, so getting down to "normal" weight for my height is actually a Herculean effort and maybe not even healthy for me. I've set my goal weight at 130 even though most literature puts a 5'2" person at 120 for healthy weight.

I know what you mean. However, if you really break down your food budget, it is still cheaper to eat at home than it is to eat out all the time at fast food places. It also depends on what you buy at the store. If you load your cart up with junk food, that is where your money will go. You can do meals that will have left overs through most of the week like baked chicken.

That's great that you are comfortable with that. Stick skinny isn't a healthy way to be for most women. If you were born that way, you look beautiful like that. However, if you naturally have curve, don't resent them.

mmmmmmm. They have the best fries. Five Guys is one of the things I've really been missing since I've had to cut out gluten. They have some of the best burgers, too.

    • img

      Dstrange2606 days ago

The occasional cheat is good. Here's an solution. Cut the burger into four equal pieces. Throw one out because most people are almost full when they eat half a burger. Drink water with Fresh squeezed lemon at the half way mark. Finish the last part with water to follow. It will make the cal count .25 less.

Ok, can I ask what toe lifts are? Since moving from the treadmill to the pavement, my shins are certainly feeling the pressure. No splints yet, but I want to keep them that way!

    • img

      ersinopoli2941 days ago

Toe lifts are when you stand with your toes together, heels apart and lift yourself up on tip-toes, then lower back down. 10 reps, then switch to heels together, toes apart and do the same thing.

Stick with it! I know it's a bit different since I don't live with my parents (so this only happens on holidays when I come to visit), but my family was skeptical and made fun of me a little when I drastically switched up my diet and exercise habits, but they stopped commenting - and even started considering it for themselves - when they saw the results I got

    • img

      lqboren2949 days ago

I get comments all the time about always being on a diet and not losing anything. I struggle with emotional eating and I hide to eat sometimes too. I feel that if I keep trying one day I will find what I need to do that helps me.

    • img

      Fishercat2949 days ago

I can relate. My Mom is the best, but she always cooked family size meals for a group of two people and I didn't have the will power to resist. It may help to have a frank talk with them about this, they may not know they're hurting your motivation and attitude.

    • img

      junkwithspunk2949 days ago

i agree with what was said above, plus if you stop now, they will feel justified in their discouragement - so now you have twice the ammo for motivation! just think how great it will feel to prove them wrong with your awesome results! :) also, a lot of negativity comes from others' own insecurities, added to "the pack" mentality in your specific situation. don't take it personal, it could very well just be them projecting their dissatisfaction with themselves. they're envious of your drive! :)

    • img

      Pati2949 days ago

Stick with it girl, they are laughing now but you will be the last one who is going to laugh, healthy, toned up and full of energy!!!! Never mind them and never let other people to influence your choices as you are not doing any harm to anyone!!!

I totally understand. Even back in my high school days when I was a size 6, I was still much heavier that "normal" - I'm also 5'2". Good job on the loss but don't worry about the scale so much. Focus on how you feel and you'll get there.

It theorizes that our ancestors were healthier than we are because they not only ate hardly any processed food, but also not much sugar and more organ meats. I'm about halfway in and have already started integrating some of the author's ideas into my diet, like eating sprouted multigrain bread instead of whole wheat.
