My doctor says my cholesterol is 35% over the healthy limit, so I'm trying to go vegan; he also says I have to be active every day. I'll need to do yoga on non-walking days to get the feel back, and then get into cardio again (thanks, Fitness Blender!). Difficulty: it's so hot out!

Fun fact: berries go great on all kind of things: as a jelly substitute in PB&J sandwich/wrap, or on fried noodles. Still want to try the pie option.

Not to make excuses, but the summer has been preoccupied with learning and mastering my new job (hence, the tie :) ). As a consequence, I've gained all my weight back, and I'm back to chip it away and get back on track.

At UFC bar night I entered the contest for a free year's membership at the UFC Gym. Dunno if anyone else entered, so my odds are good. (But please, no wrestling...)

I've been driving an Uber car trying to sort out my life, and I see they are opening bike delivery franchises (NYC only!) so duh, I applied. Body by Uber coming?!

There are challenges to changing jobs (actually, quitting and going entrepreneurial) and a big one will be in diet and activity. No takeout for a few months at least. No more sitting around eating because I'm trapped in the cafeteria and bored - actually, most of those temptations are off the table pretty much for good. But the new purpose in life has already given me a ton of energy and motivation to stop eating constantly and do stuff as much as possible.

Today's healthy snack: tortilla wrap pizzas. Light on marinara and cheese, but include the anchovies :p sorry, I'm one of those people...my friend inspired me to try these, he's a real artist with them!

Today's healthy snack: chop a chicken breast and dip in basil pesto sauce (fresh from an Italian grocery near me). Best. Food. Ever. That should be a dessert, that's how good it is :p

Nothing like the Olympics every even numbered year to remind one exactly how out of shape the rest of us are. Anyone else watching prelims or World Cup?

I've failed. I'm back to where I was before all this madness started. Basically, if I can't break out of this hopeless solitary existence, what the hell will doing burpys and getups and the rest of it accomplish?

Workouts have been lacking due to a recent cold. I don't know how runners, triathletes and bicyclists do it in freezing rain and wind. I really don't.

I've been away this summer for various reasons, positive and negative. But I'm feeling a lack of inspiration. Staying on game is hard when your motivation is gone, as in completely gone. How do you deal with it?

"The 7 Minute Workout": decent tabata routine. I'm amused watching HuffPost and NY Times gush about it like they came up with it.

I was referring to the recovering addict mantra "I can have a drink whenever I want - just not today." Or shooting heroin or gambling or whatever your addiction is: the point being to rid yourself of the notion that you will NEVER have this addicting thing (and fattening foods are all truly very addicting) that is ruining your life, and to remind yourself that you CHOOSE to be free of this thing that you think you are dependent on and has control over your life. That's what the phrase means.

Best of luck. I know I'd love a gym membership.... maybe at my local YMCA. Too poor for one right now.

      mario_c2197 days ago

Oddly, the Y is not the cheapest choice. Planet Fitness is cheapest around here, followed by Crunch except they're jerks about you relocating with your membership if you need to. Real cheap choice: search YouTube for workouts. But there's the whole issue of devoting yourself to a time and place every week to get fit, and having peers hold you accountable. ;)

There are times I feel the same way, I make progress and then I end up backwards. I will still pick myself up and keep trying. Someday I will get to where I want to be but I can't give up. Good luck with your persistance.

If you're not happy with your life now, you won't be happy when you're thinner/in shape. I suggest figuring out things mentally and emotionally first, and letting your decision to be in shape come from your new confidence. Happiness is not a destination, it's a journey. http://www.soulonline.org/bigquest/writings/february/hapiness.htm

I guess I feel like I haven't done anything with my life, so maybe losing weight will be an accomplishment of some kind. That's the wrong way of thinking about it, but how do you switch gears on your brain and change things the right way?

    • img

      Carnahankb2355 days ago

I have shared your same feelings but you have to find some light to focus on through the darkness. If you feel you haven't done anything with your life start doing something. Think about an ultimate goal for you and then set some baby steps that will lead you to that goal. Perhaps losing weight would help you feel some accomplishment and give you that push to do more with your life. God has a plan for you and your life. Seek him and he will guide you every step of the way.

I'm with you that one. I definitely give them credit. I could do a run like that once or twice, but to train all the time like that? I'd definitely need to get used to it. I guess it's all in how badly you want it.

I read recently that posting a current pic on the fridge (instead of the usual "this is the body I want" pic) is more effective at motivation. I find that to be absolutely true!

Thank you for your comments guys! I thought I was being too rough in putting the picture of myself in which I look my worst as my iPhones wallpaper. Thought I was alone in putting my worst picture in front of me a reminder and to motivate.

So honest! You are NOT alone. For me, I've found that the only thing that really can get me up and moving on days like that is when I think about my real, deep down, honest to goodness WHY of my goals. Not the generic "I'd like to lose 20 pounds" goal, but WHY I want to lose 20 pounds. For me, it's because I want to fit back into my old jeans again. I go and pull out my old jeans or look up a pic in them to help me.

    • img

      AngelEstep2465 days ago

Another thing that helps me on a daily basis is to do some form of personal development. 10-15 minutes a day of an audio book or 10-15 pages reading every single day helps to keep me in a positive frame of mind on a more regular basis. . Fitness is SO much more than just working out and eating right. It's a whole lifestyle that includes other intangible things like health, emotions, and who you hang with, too. Surround yourself with positive people with similar goals. That might help you.

    • img

      Babob2465 days ago

What I do is positive mental talk. " Come on Leah, I know it's early, but you are going to be so proud of yourself after this workout. Don't lay in bed and waste your day, get up and get out there!" Also I go on the Internet for inspiration. Look up something like " physically fit people." Looking at people who have achieved such a great figure motivates me. If they can do it we can do it, but we have to want it enough to do something about it! Good luck!

      mario_c2465 days ago

This is all great advice, thanks you guys! The whys of being fit and losing weight and all are vital, and having your life going in a positive direction makes all the difference.
