45 mins Jazzercise, shower, laundry, dishes, got me and the kids dressed, fed kids breakfast, packed their lunches, fed the parrot, made the kids brush their teeth, and all out the door on time this morning!

I'm going to challenge my 9 year-old to a Wii Just Dance game tonight! She usually wins, even though I think I'm doing the moves better, LOL. She knows more about how you're supposed to hold the nunchuck. :-)

My husband made a beautiful nicoise salad last night! Tuna, hard-cooked eggs, string beans, red bell pepper, kalamata olives, capers, baby potatoes, tomatoes, all over a bed of bibb lettuce. And, he mixed his own red wine vinaigrette! The colors of it all were so lovely, I should have taken a photo. He's totally got my back. :-)

I'm doing the "No Snacks after 3PM" challenge and I'm torn about the loose definition of what a "snack" is. Does it have to be unhealthy? If I'm eating something sugary with dinner, is it a snack? If I have a post-workout banana for the potassium (sore muscles), is that a "snack"?

I've been mentally preparing myself for an aerobics instructor training program since January, started physically training for in in March, and now in April am being told that I might not be able to teach at the location where I enrolled. This is a deal-breaker for me. Granted, there are other locations that are 10 miles away, but I work full-time and have two small kids. I'm feeling bummed.

I just got back from vacation, which was great, but put me out of my routine for a few days. Eating out and getting a visit from aunt flo combined will keep me from weighing myself for a few days. Maybe I'll weigh in on Friday!

Staying accountable: coughing too much to do aerobics this morning. I took a long, hot shower with deep breaths to open up my sinuses instead. Feeling a little better, I think. Darned allergies!!! Won't those trees stop blooming yet?

Not even close. I'm always way over on carbs and under on fats. Not sure how to get more healthy fats into my diet.

    • img

      spoookykid2901 days ago

ALWAYS over on sugar. And it's almost always from dairy and fruit. Def. disagree with that setting.

    • img

      kaiazoo2901 days ago

Always over on carbs, with a pathetic little square for protein...The fiber seems to hit the mark about the same time as the calories. I munch on a lot of celery.

    • img

      nylonthread2901 days ago

Yeah, me neither. I'll start stocking the celery to get a head start on that fiber! Do you eat it straight, or with peanut butter, @kaiazoo?

I'm near DC. I made it myself, thanks! It's a red dance unitard with stretch-vinyl-style pant legs pinned on, a bikini bottom and stretch gauntlets (the emblem is cut and glued from colored felt). Looks and feels a heck of a lot better than a crappy plastic pre-fab costume. :-D

Oh, ummmm, okay, I think. Ha! There are several Jazzercise routines that have squats in them and I take a class almost every day, so I'm counting that. Tuesdays and Thursdays I don't go to Jazzercise, so I *should* be doing them on my own. I did some yesterday morning.

I have learned that soy baby formula has been band in 8 countries for damaging the pituitary glands. The benefits from soy was found from fermented so if you want to eat it my suggestion would be the Temphe that is fermented. Just some information that I have learned.

    • img

      nylonthread2903 days ago

My husband is Japanese and is not likely to switch to tempeh anytime soon -- his ancestors have been eating tofu for centuries. Can you share a link to the study that shows that soy damages pituitary glands? Or the soy ban in 8 countries? Is it a recent ban? My brief Internet search came up with nothing.

Jazzercise -- my favorite! I used to love step aerobics, but once I tried Jazzercise, the step classes seem so repetitive. 16 songs per class, all different pop dance choreography with weights and abs at the end.

Fruit is never a 'snack'; fruit is good for you.

    • img

      curlieq3012908 days ago

I feel like snack means, oh i'm watching tv I wanna snack on something. It's an unconscious response to boredom. So snacking=food when you're not legitimately hungry. If your stomach is rumbling or you need it for a workout, I think that's fine =)

    • img

      nylonthread2908 days ago

Thanks, ladies. I was getting the impression that it was between meal snacking, but from the wording, it also seemed like it was anything that was unhealthy and not part of a well-rounded meal. Like, if you had potato chips with dinner, that would be a snack, not part of dinner. I like your definitions better. ;-)

    • img

      Carrot-top2908 days ago

I think also, you have to think about what you are using this site for. Is it, so that you can follow a bunch of arbitrary rules that you don't understand? Or is it, so that you can be healthier? If it's the second, you pretty much know what you should and shouldn't be doing, and you can interpret the rules to fit that instead of worrying about whether something is included or not - you're the boss!

    • img

      Mistyfied2909 days ago

^^True dat, what jdp said. I wouldn't concern yourself much with natural sugars very much unless you have a health condition that requires it. It's the refined, processed sugars you want to stay away from :)

Yeah, I'm often pretty dismayed when I see the sheer size of some meals too. I was trained when younger to clean my plate. Not easy to un-train myself now.

    • img

      toastfloats2910 days ago

At some point, putting half into the box isn't enough. Maybe slide 3/4 into the box and plan on eating for two or three days? Alternatively, we've just started ordering one item for two people and putting half of THAT in the box.

    • img

      nylonthread2910 days ago

Seriously, it was like 7 or 8 inches across and 1.5 inches deep. HUGE! No meat, just veggies and provolone on top. And it came with grits, a huge biscuit, and baked apples. I actually ate less than half at the first sitting. I didn't have any appetite until about seven hours later.

    • img

      TuDisQuoi2910 days ago

I made one yesterday- my pan is 8" at the top, about 6" at the base, and I used four eggs with vegs. So it isn't as bad as you might imagine! Husband ate half in one sitting, was only two eggs. :)

      Library Card2910 days ago

I don't really go out to restaurants much anymore but when I did, a lot of the time I would get a kid's meal (but with an adult size drink). There's just not as much selection there. But yeah, I totally agree that restaurants put way too much food on the plate.

NICELY DONE!! we were just discussing whether or not step Aerobics were still popular or not. I may need to add this cert!

    • img

      nylonthread2911 days ago

Some gyms in DC have eliminated step aerobics as a "dinosaur" but I love them. I quit my gym when it killed its last step class and when I couldn't find another convenient gym with step (Gold's has it, but their membership structure is toxic), I joined Jazzercise! If I can find a step class, like I did on my trip, I will go for it!
