I've gained 8 pounds by not checking my slimkicker everyday for the past month and a half... Now I'm really beating myself up for not getting on my slimkicker and keeping a log of what I eat. It also doesn't help I quit excercising becaust I hurt my back, neck, and shoulders at work... So now I'm just sitting around eating, all the time. I guess I'm an emotional eater, and I've found myself looking to eat when I have nothing to do... And I'm constantly thinking about food.... any suggestions???

For me, it's a Paleo diet - more protein and good fats and no grains.

Lottsa water and a higher Protein Diet always help curb my hunger...protein takes longer to metabolize and so makes me feel fuller longer.

Have a glass of water before your meal and a cup of tea after a meal. The water helps your stomach feel fuller and the tea (for me) is like a desert to help me feel mentally satisfied. Also, eating more protein is a good one.

    • img

      slothrangler2865 days ago

Protein and fat definitely helps, but so does high fiber - try upping your veggie intake. Just make sure you're eating veggies that aren't slathered in butter or sauces. Steamed broccoli is one of my favorites. You'll lose interest before you can eat enough that it will add too many calories.

I have a theory: that bodies need pleasure, every day. A lot of us do that with food, but I think good sleep, massages, time outside, stretching, eating quality food (I just fell in love with the baguettes at my local bakery), etc. will all work as substitutes. I find that I eat more on days when I have little else going on, but if I am able to do one nice thing for my body each day, then the desire to eat is MUCH less, and I get less pleasure out of crappy foods.

    • img

      FaintAngel2927 days ago

I think you may have something there JMAHudson. Even something so simple as putting on makeup (I usually don't, maybe that's why its like a treat for me) does make me feel good enough to skip a snack or not even consider it. rcook1385, massages may be great for you if your injuries allow.

    • img

      Bardess2927 days ago

I've come to the realization fairly recently that I'm fairly food obsessed myself and given the chance will do the same. Just sit and munch all day. But I've found that turning the food obsession into a positive, such as looking for/planning healthy meals (w/ an occasional treat to keep sane) has helped with my food obsession. You also have to give yourself some grace. (What JMAHudson says is quite true as well!!)

    • img

      chocoletojr2927 days ago

SlimKicker is another support for keeping a healty lifestyle. There's a lot of psychological stuff regarding dieting... It's like quitting smoking, you must beat the habit, takes a lot of effort, but is very rewarding.

    • img

      rcook13852927 days ago

Thank you everyone, I just need to learn to control myself better, and JMAHudson, I love that strategy! I will try to break my habits by starting with that.

If you walk a brisk mile, it only takes about 15 minutes. You could also do half of a workout in the morning, before work, then do the other half when you get home. Or just do some strength training exercise in the morning, before your shower and go for a long walk before or after dinner :) Try a group exercise class on the weekend!

      Tired_of_being_fat2951 days ago

I feel your pain... I work swing shifts and weekends also. Luckily I found a trainer in my area willing to work with my schedule. I'm meeting with her 3 times a week for a 90 day weight loss challenge. She lets me pick the times. Tomorrow 6am is our first session, I'm a little scared... Lol.

    • img

      Tired_of_being_fat2951 days ago

Also on my breaks at work I walk. I'm not as fast as some of the people on here. .5 mile on my 15 minute breaks and a mile on my 30 minute lunch. If its raining I just walk up and down the stairs.

Have you been eating enough protein? Sometimes that helps me when i'm feeling exhausted for my workouts.....I know it sucks. Hang in there....push through it. It'll get better.

    • img

      runninglibrarian2953 days ago

Start small, like trying to get to bed a little earlier. Then maybe try to add more water. Little stuff adds up and helps the momentum. But rest is key, and you probably need more of it with the change in schedule. Hang tough!

      Library Card2968 days ago

aww....be kind to yourself! Some people have "cheat days". Some once a week, every couple of weeks, or once a month. I have the same issue & just consider that time my cheat days. Instead of once a week I put those 4 days of the month together when Aunt Flo comes a visiting & so have stopped beating myself up about it. Maybe this could be something you consider doing, too?

    • img

      flower2968 days ago

I remember hearing about a bean called Carob that can be used as a chocolate substitute. I think it's supposed to be a bit healthier. I've never tried it, but it might be something to look into. And for a long time (before I started cutting down I caffine) I would eat really dark chocolate (70-98% dark) bars. There's less sugar in them and you can find some with nuts and fruit in them (so they're a little better for you). Chocolate and I have the same 'bad romance'. But I Hope that helps!

    • img

My scale does this all the time. So irritating! But it's great that you see it as motivational rather than discouraging. And in no time your scale will read 182 and it will be accurate. Keep up the good work!

    • img

      JawLine2968 days ago

What matters is not your individual weigh in numbers which will vary wildly (as much as 14 pounds without anything actually changing) but whether over a period of weeks and months, your weight is going up and down. Don't be discouraged by the tyranny of the scale.

I had a similar experience. I decided to reward myself when i reached level 3 with ice cream, which is my favorite vice food... and I ended up eating more than I intended and felt like garbage afterwards. No more food rewards. When I get to level 4, I'm rewarding myself with a pedicure instead!
