I need something to push me out of this rut. Working out six days a week with no weight loss is hard, and my family is pushing weight loss surgery. It's getting harder and harder to focus. My calorie count is always under 1700. Why does my body hate me so much? :/

Ate a few too many forkfuls of rice. Hopefully didn't damage me too badly.

Not really a big thing, but my mom was like, "everyone can get something sweet," and I turned it down and had a cup of tea instead. Even if I'm gaining weight, I don't have to help it along.

I've gained around...six pounds, and have gone up a pants size. That's what working out six days a week and counting your calories does. :/

Blah. I can keep my calories down but carbs...it's hard when you don't have full control over food. Either low carbs or no eating. :/

My family made battered and fried chicken, fried rice, and greens (not bad, but I totally hate them). So what did I do? I made my own food and it was yummy and made me feel a lot better than eating all that junk (that wouldn't even taste good).

Hasn't really changed. :( I went to the doctor and they found nothing. They gave me an appetite suppressant, but my weight hasn't shifted. I still go to the gym, but nothing really to report.

Is stress ruling your life? My husband (stressful job) had this problem for quite some time. He finally went to see a Naturopath. He takes calming herbs and nutritional supplements because people who are stressed out too much don't assimilate the nutrients in their food properly. Without the proper nutrients in our cells, it is impossible to lose weight. This is where I learned all about balance. Balance or homeostasis within our bodies means so much to our health.

      HiLLjO3417 days ago

Your FAMILY is pushing SURGERY on you? That is very drastic and they should be encouraging you to continue to push through this plateau phase. Your body may be used to the food you eat; switch up the kinds of proteins and veggies you are getting. Best wishes, I know you can do this.

    • img

      Stickman3417 days ago

Consuming 1700 calories/per day seems high, but then I don't I don't know your height or weight. I'm 5' 8", weigh 150 and try to keep my calories under 1000/day. Anything more than that and my weight loss efforts go nowhere, no matter how much I exercise.

    • img

      RBH'sMomma3417 days ago

Surgery is definitely not something your family should decide for you. If you personally think it's something worth looking into, talk to your doctor about it. I'm sorry the weight loss journey has been so discouraging for you. I've read that your body can get used to the same workout, so it sometimes helps to switch things up.

    • img

      RBH'sMomma3417 days ago

I hit a plateau a while back and started doing calorie shifting. I did start losing weight again, so that might be something else you want to look into. I eat an average of 1500 cal/day, but I'm also breastfeeding, which burns about 300 of that. Please keep us updated on your progress, we're all rooting for you!

    • img

      JaeFuma3417 days ago

Just an FYI, I'm six feet tall. Don't know if it changes much. Because I've been dealing with this plateau for almost a year, my family is like, "get the surgery, it'll get rid of the rest of the weight." I'm trying avoid. I started fine at first. I was at 339 and got down to 209, I went abroad and came back at 222, then went back to 216, and then I've been at 236 for almost a year and I don't know what's wrong. Eat more, eat less? Move more? Move less? I just don't know...

    • img

      bells3417 days ago

You should never eat under your BMR. I would eat waaayyy under my BMR and lost weight so quickly for the first 3 months. Now, I'm just starting (after 6 months of plateau) to eat at or above my BMR and am starting so see shifts in my body. Have you tried resistance training?

    • img

      bells3417 days ago

More muscle = more cals burnt per day, plus it will help you to firm up and become stronger overall. Get a heart rate monitor and make sure you always eat back your calories to around your BMR, or your body just can't function. Trust me, I've been there :(

    • img

      JennH2O3417 days ago

I would agree with those who suggested changing up your diet and excercise. Your body may just be getting use to what you are doing. I wouldn't change your calorie intake as it seems to me to be right on. This calorie counter is pretty accurate in estimating what you need to function - http://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/calories.htm - keep in mind that is what you need to do to maintain. Good luck and don't let your family talk you into something you don't want.

    • img

      JennH2O3417 days ago

I would also suggest giving yourself more rest days. Those days are needed to let your body recover, rebuild and be efficient. Maybe try pushing yourself harder just 3 days a week for a couple weeks and see if there is a difference.

    • img

      JaeFuma3417 days ago

I do weight training three days a week. I'm well aware of how the calorie counters work and I've followed them (like the difference between what I need to function between what I need to lose). I just want the weight to shift. It wasn't hard being in the gym all day when I knew what it was for, nor was it hard to push away this or that. but I'm getting in a "what's the point" kind of mood because of the lack of success.

I'm so glad I am taking the course to be P90X Certified because I learned about this. Sometimes when you exercise strenuously, your body will retain water at first, in response to the trauma! This should pass in a few weeks! :-)

LMAO!!!! Ha! They did NOT suggest orange juice as a dessert!! Please tell me you're making that up! That's almost as bad as when folks say "spaghetti squash taste just like spaghetti." Umm...no it doesn't...it taste like squash. What did you end up having for dessert?

    • img

      JaeFuma3426 days ago

They did. If you ad anything with sugar, they give you some hint and they said orange juice would be sweeter and solve that craving. They lied. But a low carb snickerdoodle works just fine lol

    • img

      TeresaM3426 days ago

I solve this with one or two squares of dark chocolate - the darker the better. good stuff in it and I find that sometimes i don't even go over the very low sugar limit

    • img

      ADookie3426 days ago

I love dark chocolate and I'm terrified to have it in my house cause it won't be there for long. I practice "if I don't have it, I can't eat it." Right now, I'm fighting with the fiber one brownies in my cupboard. I'm winning, but it's a struggle.

They should. Add them at the end of the day to keep track of PROCESSED sugar. You can eat fruits/vegs.
