For those of you that like Peanut Butter, have you tried Soy Nut Butter? It's actually pretty good on a slice of toast...1 T is enough, even though 2T is a serving. I'm a peanut butter fiend and this is a great healthy alternative.

Hey......I thought for sure that I had gained weight because of my unhealthy eating mishap binge....but NO :) I am now to 127 from 135 :) I'm 5'6 (almost 5'7) and am feeling pretty comfortable at this weight....just need to tone some more. I'd like more lean muscle.

I have been so good and I just want some damn rice with my dinner for once. Grrrr.... AND there's teriyaki and sarachi sauce in the stir fry. O well. I've been looking onliine to see how many grams of sugar equal a calorie, since it seems that I don't eat enough calories, but go over on my sugar limit. This is what i found: 1 gram of sugar equals 4 calories. Does this mean that I can use the over consumption of sugar to make up for my lack of calories?

Is peanut butter not healthy? I make my own, and the only ingredients are roasted peanuts, salt, and a little oil. It's not low-cal, but it's about as natural as you can get!

      kac0383340 days ago

Net carbs are total carbs - fiber, the idea being that the fiber isn't absorbed by your digestive system and just passes through you.

    • img

      clashgirl13340 days ago

Which carbs do you count for your daily tracking? Thank you. :)

    • img

      kac0383340 days ago

This website counts all of them, but if I'm logging 30+ grams of fiber I don't worry if I go 20-30 grams over my carb 'limit'. To some degree it's a question of finding what works for you, but I've found that I am losing 1-1.5lbs/week this way, which is what I was after anyway.

    • img

      lynnbaum3340 days ago

Really read that lable. look for fake sugar. Net carbs is a way for advertisers to jump in on the whole atkins thing. When tjhe whole low carb craze thing hit they needed catch phases to get you to buy the product and get you to think it is good for you. I go over my carb limit all the time and just wait for watermelon season then I will really be over.

    • img

      clashgirl13340 days ago

Thank you! i was starting to get frustrated with the carb limit.....the sugar limit goes over easily, too and it doesn't even have to be from something bad (i.e. fruit)...It's kinda discouraging, actually.

Absolutely agree! Warm tea is fantastic, both as a regular beverage and a keep-you-full-device.

    • img

      kuehnebe3341 days ago

Another suggestion would be to keep the amount of rice or pasta small enough to work for your diet, but big enough to satisfy your cravings. A favorite of mine is to mix chicken, a bunch of peppers, onions, and other veggies into a pan and sautee them in a mixture of good chili sauce and (healthy) oils. Adding as little as half a cup (or less) of cooked rice/pasta into the mix should satisfy your cravings while still providing you with a great, wholesome meal.

      clashgirl13341 days ago

Thanks, you guys. :) What are your feelings on wheat? Someone told me to read a book called The Wheat Belly and I've been reading the reviews on it and there's all this stuff if you cut wheat out of your diet that you will lose weight. This goes against everything I've learned about food. Maybe I'm analyzing too much, but I have some gluten free clients and they're not really on the thin side. So I question this. What do you think?

    • img

      Miss Destruction3343 days ago

Tanuki's right. Don't even buy them, or if others eat them, insist they keep them in a place where you don't have access to them. Get a container of fresh berries and keep them in the fridge to snack on. They're super sweet and full of anti-oxidants. Even for a little treat, couple them with some non-fat cool whip. Way less calories and just as sweet. :) Good luck!

    • img

      clashgirl13343 days ago

The funny thing is that I never eat cookies but I wanted something crunchy and my son always buys them and puts the in the cupboard. I just need him to hide them so I have no idea where they are! Fresh berries to snack on is a great idea! :) Thank you.

I know its not the same, but if you drink beer, go for the Light ones.. and if you drink hard alcohol, either just do shots or try tonic water... try and stay away from sugary juice/soda mixes, it will cut your calorie intake down.

    • img

      clashgirl13344 days ago

But i've always wondered if the light beers contain as much alcohol as the yummy expensive beers....and if not, then I'd probably make up for the calories with just drinking more light beers. What do you think?

martinis have been my poison of choice lately. I used to be a huge beer drinker (probably still would be if I gave myself the chance) but I'm trying to stick with wine or liquor, as it seems I can drink less of that for the same effect as a dang six pack of beer. A night out once in awhile, even to excess, is fine, just make sure you have a sober ride home.

Yes, that's part of what happens. The other part is that when you don't eat enough, your blood sugar drops, so you get a sugar craving. Then, after eating sugar, your blood sugar spikes, then drops again. So you crave more sugar. By eating more calories spaced throughout the day you'll eliminate sugar cravings.

Complex carbs are those with lots of fibre and other nutrients like vitamins and minerals. They are natural foods you eat as such with minimal transformation. For example, an apple is a complex carb. Refined carbs like white bread are striped of most fibre and vitamins and minerals. Hope that helps!

    • img

      Butch21123345 days ago

From what i have read if its processed its bad, Bread, bagels, white rice etc. But things like oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, even though they are "carb heavy" its better for you. Just trying to eat healthy I am learning more than when I was in school.

      clashgirl13345 days ago

      Thanks, both of you! :)

    • img

      JLhere3345 days ago

Complex carbs are ones that it takes your body longer to digest. So whole grains, brown or wild rice, quinoa... stuff like that.

    • img

      NathalieS3345 days ago

You're welcome! Don't forget about potatoes, sweet potatoes, and other starchy veggies - those are also complex carbs, and contain much more vitamins and minerals than whole grain. Whole grains are good, but don't limit all your complex carbs to grains.

    • img

      tanuki3347 days ago

I have the same problem! Some days my calories are well below the limit but sugar or carbs or sodium is off the charts. When that happens, I take it as a challenge to find foods that won't make those levels go higher. Like, on high sugar days, I go for chicken breast or egg whites, both of which are super high in protein, low in fat, and low in carbs and sugar. Use it to explore new foods, too!

    • img

      clashgirl13347 days ago

I like it cause it makes you realize how much of something you're eating and not eating. Now it has me wondering if i've been a carb junkie because I don't get enough protein. Hmmm. :)
