Last year I lost 50 lb, then took a break to maintain for a while before losing the last 20 lb to my goal weight. Deadline stress and sloppiness have since led to my regaining 15 lb. Boo! I am getting back to the straight and narrow: I feel better when I eat properly, and I do *not* want to outgrow all the smaller clothes I bought last year!

Has anyone tried Ballerobica videos? I like the idea, but I'd like to hear other people's experiences with these or other ballet-based fitness videos, if possible.

Started again with weights this weekend, and I can feel the effects! Not super-sore, but I'm aware of my biceps when I stretch. Need to hit my triceps more next time!

I really need to start thrifting for clothes, b/c this is getting expensive. In March, I was wearing US size 16 jeans; now, the US size 8 dress I'd ordered as my next-goal outfit mysteriously and shockingly actually fits. I'm pleased, but afraid to calculate how much I'll wind up spending on clothes that fit before I'm done.

Good news: down four jeans sizes since the beginning of this year! Bad news: skinny jeans are an evil, cruel joke invented by a sadist. Good news: at least skinny jeans keep me motivated to work on my blubberous thighs!

Excited for my lunch today: I packed a salad with homemade dressing (sanctuary dressing from _Appetite for Reduction_). Romaine, purple bell pepper, veggie pepperoni, and lentils!

One pound to go to my next goal! Then only 10 pounds, and I will actually weigh what my driver's license says I weigh. :)

I got sloppy last week, but I'm back and ready to knock off those last pounds! Seven more pounds to my next goal, then 10 pounds to what I hope is my final goal. I just need to stay the course and not get sloppy again!

For dessert, I had a cup of fresh, organic strawberries drizzled lightly with orange-infused balsamic vinegar and sprinkled with slivered almonds. Seriously delicious, and super easy.

Twelve more pounds until I'm in the healthy BMI range! In the meantime, I take comfort in the fact that, per the online calculators, my body fat percentage is in the healthy range already. Near the top, but still: healthy!

Thirty pounds gone! Fourteen to go before I reach my second goal, which may or may not be my final (I'll evaluate how I feel and look, and may decide to go for another 10 lb or so). I love eating real food: my meals are overflowing with colorful veggies, and I'm not hungry while I'm losing weight. Plus, I feel my diet is healthier than it was when I was eating lots of bread and not watching portions. :)

Week-long business trip starts in a few days. I'm a bit nervous: usually I can find veggies for dinner, but finding vegan protein is always a challenge at standard restaurants. Now that I'm on a 40:30:30 ratio of carbs:protein:fat, even eating at veg restaurants is going to be interesting. I'll make it work!

Weight loss is slowing down now to 1 lb a week, instead of 2. Ah, well. After 2 1/2 months, it's probably to be expected. At least it's still going in the right direction! I'll get there eventually.

One of the reasons I love my little countertop grill is that I can prep the next day's lunch while tonight's dinner is cooking. It makes me much less likely to rely on packaged food!

Sweet! Hit my first goal (lost the 24 lb of meds-related weight gained in the last year or so), plus and extra pound! Now on to stage 2, losing the next, and hopefully last, 19 lb!

Will find out tomorrow at my weigh-in whether I've met my first goal: losing the 24 lb of weight I packed on in a year thanks to my meds. I was 1 lb away last week! (My next goal will be losing the 20 lb I've been wanting to lose for a few years. Then I'll reevaluate how I feel and look, and possibly set a third goal for another 5 to 10 lb.) Yay progress!

Enjoying a green smoothie: frozen banana, alfalfa sprouts, almonds, peach slices, protein powder, and water. Surprisingly good! I adapted the recipe from Vegweb.com.

Sounds like you know what to do to lose weight, so you have the hard part nailed down. Now all you have to do is "do it" - You are going to be so happy when you are at maintenance only. I cant wait til I am no longer needing to lose!

I am just starting out. Do you have any secrets from those 50 pounds lost to share?

    • img

      moghedien3112 days ago

Well, YMMV, but what works for me mostly involves eating more veggies (and some fruit), restricting bread and sugar, making sure I have a moderate amount of protein at every meal (I'm vegan, so there's a lot of tofu, tempeh, and seitan), and adding a wee bit of healthy fats. Basically, it's a lower-glycemic-index 30/30/40-type diet focusing on nutritional bang for my buck. It works for me -- when I don't let my stress eating get out of control! :)

Similar to the green ones, but less sharp-tasting, I think. Definitely less sweet than the yellow or red, but slightly more mellow than green. Good!

@moghedien 'Love 40:30:30! My doctor put me on that years ago to avoid blood sugar spikes. I have not been faithful to it and have gained weight as a result. It really is a great diet, but definitely challenging from a vegan perspective - I don't know that I could do it vegan. Good luck! :)

Thanks! I will do the best I can -- and if I screw up, then so be it! At least I'll be back on track when I get home. (As long as I can prep my own meals, it's easy. I've been vegan for 7 years, so it's normal for me. :) My dr didn't specifically recommend the 40:30:30, but he did suggest that I watch my carb intake when I gained weight from meds. OTOH, my insulin-resistant mom is trying the plan, and loves it: her blood sugar levels are great now, & she's losing weight!

I've got a similar dilemma coming up - it's only 4 days compared to your week, but my plan is just to try my hardest to eat as healthy as possible and get back into the full swing of things once I'm back. (it's either that or take a billion tubs full of protein servings, fruits, protein cakes... I would need more luggage :P)

    • img

      moghedien3413 days ago

@xprawn I think your plan of "just do the best you can" is wise. One thing I'm trying is homemade tofu jerky, so when I go out with colleagues and have a vegetable plate, I can have some protein to balance it out. Emergency bars and smoothie powder are for other meals. Next time I want to try making seitan jerky! I've never done that, but it should be possible.
