Do other people log their food when they're ill? I have been if my symptoms are light and not affecting my stomach, and not on days where illness means nausea (like migraine days). When I'm nauseated, I figure whatever I can keep down is part of a healthy diet, and that usually means tons of fruits and juices and bland grains. What do you think?

Back! after finals and sickness distracted me from my careful eating. :)

My body did not fair so well at giving blood today - the rest of the day was much more focused on making myself eat and keep food down than eating the right thing. It's encouraging how much I hated giving up my diet plan for the afternoon/evening.

Eating at a university dining commons is really awful sometimes. The last two days I've been surviving off of our meager salad bar. Today, I caved and ate so many carbs - but I didn't think i could take one more boring salad.

In the green for everything! First day ever. I need to eat more fats, protein, and calories, with less carbohydrates and sugar, in general. Hmm...

Had a big, carb-filled breakfast this morning (and maybe a little too much sugar on my grapefruit). I'm going to be over on sugars and carbs today, but I'm willing to forgive myself since most of that was before I took an 8.5 mile run - I'm pretty sure I needed them. Yay glycogen!

Finally my carbs and sugar didn't turn red, even after dinner! I'm still over my goal numbers, but WAY less than I have been the last few days. Win. I don't know how I feel about the cholesterol turning red though - and from just 2 boiled eggs!

I usually do just to keep in the habit, but cut yourself some slack if you go over on something (I was way over on carbs cause ate oatmeal and mac and cheese cause my stomach wasn't taking much else). Feel better!

well... what's the meaning of IIFYM? i've never heard of it.

      teuffles3337 days ago

If it fits your macros. Basically the idea that you can eat whatever you want so long as you stay within your guidelines. For example, I had two meals today that were pretty low calorie, and used up my sugar and carbs for the day. Dinner was higher calorie, with lots of fat and protein. I would normally consider it a 'cheat' food, but it didn't actually put me over any of my macronutrients.

      teuffles3337 days ago

There are plenty of flaws to using that methodology exclusively, but I think it's healthy to put into perspective that cheat foods aren't always as bad as they seem, as long as they're taken in moderation and in a way that is balanced out by the rest of your diet.

I fell off the wagon this weekend when I made oatmeal cookie sandwichs. I'm glad my BF ate the rest of them.

Congratulations! And if you don't normally have a lot of cholesterol or frequently eat eggs, I wouldn't worry about that.

Don't feel that you have to do it all at once. Try substituting half of it at first. I use a cocktail of sweeteners for my coffee. They do change the taste and smell, so make a science project out of it and find what works best. You don't have to be a sugar monk.

    • img

      teuffles3344 days ago

I have already cut out a lot of my coffee sugar in the last couple of weeks (I'm down to 1-2 small scoops, depending on the day and where I'm getting said coffee) so I'm trying to go for none a couple of days a week and stick to my little bit the rest of the week and see how that goes. I don't use artificial sweeteners for other reasons, though. One day at a time :)

    • img

      jdp3344 days ago

Going back to drinking coffee black (and tea without anything in it) was a really good move for me. When I was putting a bunch of artificial sweeteners in, I always felt bad after drinking a cup of coffee. Straight up coffee never gives me any trouble.

You know Coffee will have to go one day too, right? Caffeine is pretty awful for the body. I had the hardest time giving up coke [never been one of hot drinks like coffee] and that was like 100% sugar and caffeine. Good luck though! :D

One thing at a time. I'm in school right now and starting grad school in the fall so I'm going to let that vice ride for a while I think.
